Same old same old in the end.

Mexico is such a different team than the one the USA handled so easily in February.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 12 August 2009 22:00 (fourteen years ago) link

what a bunch of bullshit

jergins, Wednesday, 12 August 2009 22:15 (fourteen years ago) link

Israel Castro, wow what a loaded name

unban dictionary (blueski), Wednesday, 12 August 2009 22:18 (fourteen years ago) link

A few bad calls on fouls, but the cards were legit. The US couldn't clear it out of their zone, never tried to build through the midfield, and played on their heals for basically 60 minutes. They reaped what they sowed.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 12 August 2009 22:31 (fourteen years ago) link

howard's point blank stop when dos santos had all the mother fucking time in the world, that was a nice moment. holden with a good cross or two. onyewu big in the middle, heading stuff out. landon and davies had their speedy creating moments. other than that, fuuuuuck. for stretches it reminded me of the spain game, only w/o the shutdown and the counterattacking purpose.

the soccer bar's commentary was in spanish, which wasn't bad considering balboa. the place was packed, 2/3 US fans the rest mexico. everybody got along, unlike all that ugly bullshit on the field, trying to pick davies up and other assorted pettiness.

jergins, Wednesday, 12 August 2009 23:22 (fourteen years ago) link

For all the talk about Landon, Tim Howard seems to be the one who steps up on the bigger stages. Bocanegra ought to just give him the Captaincy since he's the one doing all the leading.

Glad to hear your crowd was friendly - in Feb when I went to Boston the crowds were really anti-Mexico and anti-Mexican fans.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 12 August 2009 23:26 (fourteen years ago) link

A day after he played a full 90 minutes in the United States national team’s 2-1 loss to Mexico, Landon Donovan revealed he tested positive for the H1N1 flu virus, or swine flu, according to a report first published on SI.com.

beckerman shouldnt see the field in a match that matters for a loooong time

-- (jergins), Sunday, 6 September 2009 02:18 (fourteen years ago) link

could have been 5-1, should have been 3-1. damn. for a good 20 minutes i thought "this team doesn't deserve to qualify."

-- (jergins), Sunday, 6 September 2009 02:44 (fourteen years ago) link

ok is mexico the best team in concacaf again or not
(didn't see it, reads impressively)

speetzie (jergins), Sunday, 6 September 2009 04:04 (fourteen years ago) link

I watched the El Salvador game with a n00b and when Beckerman came on she said "I hate this guy already". Then he gave the ball away every time he touched it.

Shit's getting hectic in the table w/ 3 games left:

Honduras 4-1-2 13pts +7goals
USA 4-1-2 13pts +4goals
Mexico 4-0-3 12pts +2goals
Costa Rica 4-0-3 12pts -3goals
El Salvador 1-2-4 5pts -3goals
T&T 1-2-4 5pts -7goals

ESPN pundits can't seem to decide if the parity at the top is an indicator of the increased strength or decreased quality of the region as a whole.

dan m, Wednesday, 9 September 2009 18:50 (fourteen years ago) link

xp And yeah, I think Mexico has taken it back again, though not decisively. Aguirre has them playing close to potential once again. Missing u, Sven.

dan m, Wednesday, 9 September 2009 18:53 (fourteen years ago) link

guys what happened to jamaica they used to be good

kevision questler (country matters), Wednesday, 9 September 2009 18:55 (fourteen years ago) link

good question loujagz, perhaps that is an indicator of the increased strength of competition in the region... OR the decreased quality?!? we may never know

dan m, Wednesday, 9 September 2009 18:57 (fourteen years ago) link

hahaha

kevision questler (country matters), Wednesday, 9 September 2009 18:57 (fourteen years ago) link

I think Shaka Hislop is my favorite talking head over here, he's not afraid to say T&T is sucking up the place.

dan m, Wednesday, 9 September 2009 18:58 (fourteen years ago) link

...also USA, Mexico, and El Sal. He seems to really like the Ticos and Honduras for some reason.

dan m, Wednesday, 9 September 2009 18:58 (fourteen years ago) link

anyway folks i have engerland to watch peace and god bless concacaf, are there any crunch games coming up? how many teams qualify?

shaka hislop has a degree in mechanics (i think possibly rocket mechanics) and a penchant for having pulled off *ridiculous* close-range saves...nothing but love for that guy

kevision questler (country matters), Wednesday, 9 September 2009 18:59 (fourteen years ago) link

okay i miss jamaica too

Top 3 qualify, 4th plays a home-away playoff w/ 5th from down south. Looking like that could be Argentina, Ecuador, or Colombia right now. Scary. All the remaining games are big in light of that, no-one wants to finish 4th.

Makes me wonder if Bradley could weather a storm of 3 consecutive losses at this point, probably not. I can't imagine who they'd get to replace him, though. Sigi?

Has anybody watched the Fox Phone-in show w/Wynalda?

L'obamalâtrie obligatoire (Michael White), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 17:42 (fourteen years ago) link

I've seen a couple episodes, it's decent. They kind of changed the overall emphasis of the show when they brought him on, it got a bit more US-centric.

i am under no illusions that my opinions are even that interesting to me (dan m), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 17:45 (fourteen years ago) link

He is kind of awesome in that when the inevitable callers get on and trash MLS/US soccer players, he usually stands up to them instead of joining in like Steve Cohen did. Cohen always seemed like he was playing the role of the loudmouth, and Wynalda is and always has been a loudmouth.
