ok let me rephrase that
he's totally fucked financially and there's very little he can do about it, and people are not going to throw enough money to him for him to crawl out of it

I think his kids are more fucked than he is. He'll either be President again or go off somewhere to die in peace, but his family is unlikely to be able to grift at such a high level after he's dead.

Twenty-four hours after he's officially declared dead the Russians and the Saudis are gonna round up all the Trump kids and explain exactly how they're going to start paying off their father's markers, immediately, and who's going to get bone-sawed first if they don't.

Like sorry not sorry, but the dream of class-based downfall independent of violence is just that— a dream. Unless someone takes their money from them— and the Saudis are not going to do that— then they will just continue to be rich little maggots feeding off the rest of us. That’s the way capitalism works.

“Some people call it an experiment – I don’t call it an experiment,” Trump said of the United States. “I just say this is a magnificent place, a magnificent country, and it’s sad to see how far it’s come and gone … When you look at the depths where it’s gone, we can’t let that happen. We’re going to straighten it out. We’re going to close our borders. We’re going to drill baby drill.”

I think I mentioned this elsewhere but this is way more concerning to me than Biden's verbal slips, like it's one thing to mix up people who have similar positions or statuses but the current President, and guy you are running against in the election, should not be one of those things you mix up. in fact asking who the current President is is one of those things they ask you when you're suspected of having a concussion.
― frogbs, Wednesday, 6 March 2024 19:16 (one month ago) link
Also Biden has been making verbal slips since 1980, that's just how he's wired
― Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 6 March 2024 19:20 (one month ago) link
I think there's a credible case to be made that Trump decided to run after Obama roasted him at the 2011 Correspondents' Dinner. Of course, Trump had already been riding the "birther" hobby horse--that was the basis for Obama's jokes--but there certainly was an obsessive quality to the way Trump tried to erase Obama's legacy. So, in some ways, I suppose he is still running against Obama.
― immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Wednesday, 6 March 2024 19:26 (one month ago) link

it's weird because it's not like fringe hateful conservative candidates, some with decent fame/money, hadn't run before, and usually did poorly (including he himself in his failed Reform Party bid in 2000). but gay people being treated better and a Black man in office for 8 years pissed everyone off so much that he became their hero.
it's weird how it's just accepted now considering how ridiculous it seemed at the time.
