Can I claim I Can Do It With A Broken Heart?

Artist name Twenty Dollars

a hoy hoy, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 08:19 (three months ago) link

believe the asterisks are all claimed up

would like to take a stab at "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys" though I also don't want to crowd anyone out, especially if someone wants to sing, down for a collab

have never participated but these are one of my favorite things about ilm, thanks Ned

Florin Cuchares, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 08:56 (three months ago) link

oh yeah also ILX name is cool

Oh damn this is tempting.

emil.y, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 16:52 (three months ago) link

Give in!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 17:15 (three months ago) link

I'm just worried about saying I'll do it and then letting everyone down. I've not been doing much music since the pandemic came around.

emil.y, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 17:22 (three months ago) link

Me do BUT DADDY I LOVE HIM

kurt schwitterz, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 17:24 (three months ago) link

A couple of folx from that Discord server that me and imago are in talked me into making music a while ago, although I'm about as far from sounding like Taylor Swift as Gorguts is. (It's abstract instrumental bedroom electronics.) I'll take "My Boy Breaks His Favorite Toys."

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 17:25 (three months ago) link

Or "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys."

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 17:26 (three months ago) link

You have to pick another one! Asterisk means it HAS been claimed.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 17:27 (three months ago) link

Whoops, I didn't see that message. I'll take "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me."
And I want it under the name Chris Irregardless.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 17:29 (three months ago) link

Sounds good -- current 'to claim' list, four to go plus bonus, with a hoy hoy down for claiming one of these already. emil.y you still have time if you'd like to do one!

Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)
* The Tortured Poets Department
* My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys

* So Long, London
* But Daddy I Love Him
* Fresh Out the Slammer
Florida!!! (feat. Florence + the Machine)

Wait I’m confused by your message, I did claim Broken Heart right?

a hoy hoy, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 20:52 (three months ago) link

No I was meaning to say someone already claimed it before you! Claim one of the unasterisked ones instead.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 21:35 (three months ago) link

Ah yes, my bad.

a hoy hoy, Wednesday, 7 February 2024 22:08 (three months ago) link

Give me Clara Bow… I just need two weeks to learn how to make music but I think that’s more than enough time.

Hahah do what you must! It's yours. So updating, three left to ask for, a hoy hoy has expressed interest in one of them, so can we have two more folks step up? Or emil.y and one more, maybe?

Nabozo, Thursday, 8 February 2024 09:38 (three months ago) link

Okay all that's left are "Fortnight" and "Florida!!!" -- WHO IS BRAVE ENOUGH TO CLAIM THE DUETS?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 February 2024 16:49 (three months ago) link

maybe we hire a ringer, like Jedward

never trust a big book and a simile (Neanderthal), Thursday, 8 February 2024 19:02 (three months ago) link

I nominate Neanderthal to give us a metal epic

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 February 2024 19:07 (three months ago) link

LJ lured me here and I just recorded a draft of "Fortnight" (more of a post tonality feat than a Post Malone feat tho). I can send a recording if it counts and is still available.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Thursday, 8 February 2024 19:29 (three months ago) link

Very much available, it's yours!

"Florida!!!" is the last one left!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 February 2024 19:31 (three months ago) link

I'm going to officially state that I'm out. I do like the excessive exclamation marks of 'Florida!!!' but I don't think I can take it on. Somebody else jump in and make the album complete.

emil.y, Thursday, 8 February 2024 21:41 (three months ago) link

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 9 February 2024 03:58 (three months ago) link

Already wondering if my initial idea for my track isn't completely stupid and impractical.

The British Boy of Film Classification (Tom D.), Friday, 9 February 2024 11:07 (three months ago) link

I have never knowingly heard a TS song so I feel unqualified to approach this one, as much as I enjoy our covers projects, but if anyone needs any help with mastering or the like hit me up on this thread.

MaresNest, Friday, 9 February 2024 11:16 (three months ago) link

You don't have to have heard anything by the artist or even be interested in their work though? Believe me I have less than zero interest in latter day U2 and Morrissey and I did tracks for both those projects. I just go on whether the titles give me any ideas. For instance I did a cover of a Morrissey track called Mountjoy, which I assume was named after the prison on Dublin but made me think of the snooker player, Doug Mountjoy. Doug Mountjoy's claim to fame was he was the first player to perform a maximum break on television, so I found some audio of the commentary (Ted Lowe of course!) and built the track around that.

The British Boy of Film Classification (Tom D.), Friday, 9 February 2024 11:27 (three months ago) link

Also doing something that sounds nothing like the artist you are covering seems the ideal approach.

The British Boy of Film Classification (Tom D.), Friday, 9 February 2024 11:28 (three months ago) link

Well, the last point is a given with my contributions for sure, and I do see what you mean, but I'm trying to think if I've ever done one of these when I haven't liked or at least been pretty familiar with the artist.

If Alfred reads this (or if someone wants to give him a nudge) and wishes to do his thing, I will happily provide the music.

MaresNest, Friday, 9 February 2024 11:48 (three months ago) link

He's been nudged

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Monday, 1 April 2024 15:52 (one month ago) link

As I'm almost out the door for a chunk of the day I can't do anything immediate; that said, Maresn3st, if you're willing to wait until this evening I can probably get you everything then if you want to do a run-through on that front.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 1 April 2024 15:58 (one month ago) link

(Also, Josh, not seeing your new one yet; maybe resend or try an alternate method?)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 1 April 2024 15:58 (one month ago) link

I sent it a second time via dropbox (I think/hope), since gmail wasn't cooperating this time.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 1 April 2024 15:59 (one month ago) link

i mastered ours, feel free to take a look at it but there's probably not much headroom

I made mine sound less shitty but when it comes to levels, I'm clueless and always have been. also was using a Bandlab app on my phone. so any tweaking of mine, have at it.

CEO Greedwagon (Neanderthal), Monday, 1 April 2024 16:07 (one month ago) link

Sent you an email, Ned

Ned Raggett, Monday, 1 April 2024 16:24 (one month ago) link

I mixed mine with one ear not functioning so mine could probably use some mastering

imago, Monday, 1 April 2024 18:14 (one month ago) link

Anyway I just need to record my own addition to Josh's extra track, which is now in hand. It will, I think, suit.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 1 April 2024 18:20 (one month ago) link

How many decimals of Pi can you fit in two minutes?

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 1 April 2024 18:27 (one month ago) link

Quick note that Elvis T got in touch, things did indeed get too crazy with the house et al. But we are covered at this point. Maresn3st will get the tracks later today from me for a quick listen/master and then I'll put things up for download tomorrow. (Again, avoiding Soundcloud/Bandcamp/etc. for the moment to prevent account nuking.)

Neanderthal, there was a little bit of clipping on the original recording close to the end of the tune, that I just couldn't totally pull out, sorry about that.
