― I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Monday, 5 February 2024 15:16 (three months ago) link
Yeah, dragging Lana up there was really awkward as she clearly didn't want to be on that stage even for a second.
Apart from some great performances (Dua Lipa, Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Billie Eilish) the clear highlight of the night was Jay-Z's speech. Calling out the academy for not giving Beyonce album of the year, saying "you don't need to clap for everything", "forget about the Grammys", and some artists don't belong in the category's they're nominated in was really fun to watch. I bet they regret bringing him up there.

whenever he stopped saying unfunny ass-kissing stuff and just stood there with that sick fixed smile on his face...you wondered if someone was holding his family hostage.

lol Jay has beefed over dumber things than that. I liked the line about people not belonging in the category because it was a little glimmer of Hova up there, little reminder of who they were giving an award to.

I thought it was pretty lame to give JayZ an honorary award in a year when her very good album got 100% snubbed in nominations, so I'm glad he hinted at it.
― I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Monday, 5 February 2024 15:35 (three months ago) link
The snub was last year, when she lost AOTY to Harry Styles

That's not the order in which it happened.Correct – it was after her first win that she declared her fans were responsible, and here’s a surprise for them…It was after her AOTY win that she didn’t even bother to make eye contact w Celine Dion (or acknowledge her congratulations) and she grabbed the award out of her hands…

Thought Dua Lipa was great, Joni was awesome, Billie, Tracy, and Burbank Boy as well. I don't think U2 was actually live...that almost looked like CGI. Travis Scott was a big zero. Cool to see boygenius win. Was hoping they'd sneak Mimi Parker into the memoriam but that was so unlikely.

I watched the clip. I don’t like defending Taylor Swift but the internet is being overtly dramatic as usual. Yeah Lana del Rey seemed like she didn’t want to go with her and she was probably torn about her album or nominated songs not getting the deserved recognition m, but whatever they’re friends irl and Lana did participate in the album. If it weren’t for the recent rule changes she’d have won a grammy for the album too. I don’t see Taylor being terrible for bringing her along.
The Celine Dion thing is also being dramatized and Taylor was clearly overwhlemed, but it does seem like misfire for someone who is usually so calculated and in control of her image.
Still not as bad as it seems. I think there has been so much overexposure of her in the past year that backlash for any little mistake is inevitable at this point.

I seemingly agree with the losing nominees that announcing your new album during your is pretty eyeroll worthy. Just tweet the announcement after the show ffs.
― Beyond Goo and Evol (President Keyes), Monday, 5 February 2024 16:53 (three months ago) link
Agreed, it's pointless to get mad at her for the LDR or Celine things. Get mad at her for being a bad actress trying to appear surprised that she won the award at all

i'm pretty forgiving w/ Taylor, but even i think announcing the album during an award speech is cringey - especially for someone at her level. can't really fault someone for whom the platform actually matters w/r/t getting the word out, but that's not her, obviously.
