Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs was ok, i sort of wish it was only Tracy as they featured Luke too much

SZA with killing men was over the top

This Jay-Z speech is … quite a ride

The Jay-Z speech was fun. Also, this Joni Mitchell performance was really good.

everything i hear about this grammys suggests they finally put on a good show, after... idk can anyone remember a good grammys

Didn’t they do the 50 Years of Hip-Hop medley last year?

Miley and Taylor winning back to back like grizzled gunslingers. I liked Taylor dragging LDR up with her.

as the kids like to say that was pretty damn mid. and boring. and fake like trevor noah's fake smile. surprised they didn't all sing american pie and hey jude at the end. its official. america sucks. some serious attempts at tearjerking too. nice try, annie lennox. it would have been way cooler if stevie wonder had done a duet with jimmy buffett.

(travis and dua and miley and sza and poor poor fantasia were so zzzzzzzzzzz.....where's the k-pop when you need it....)

scott seward, Monday, 5 February 2024 04:57 (three months ago) link

The Billy Joel song was terrible, yeah.

I tuned in late so I just went back and rewatched all three boygenius acceptance speeches, all delightful. What was the last band that made being in a band look like so much fun? Peak Sleater-Kinney maybe.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Monday, 5 February 2024 05:13 (three months ago) link

boygenius showed up in a lot of the shots when others won, appearing really thrilled for everyone.

omar little, Monday, 5 February 2024 05:49 (three months ago) link

Joni great, Tracey Chapman great. SZA great. Dua Lipa: pretty great. Travis Scott; terrible and why did he get to do three songs? fantasia tribute to Tina: she did her best but no one else brings that energy. Got very tired of director choosing to cut to Taylor all the time, I guess that’s how NFL people feel. Sit down; I know she’s trying to show support for people but it winds up appearing like she’s trying to get attention.

I went to bed at 10 p.m., so I missed the rest of the hijinks. I guess I'm happy Victoria Monét won Best New Artist.

Beatles "I'm Only Sleeping" wins best video?

Clearly setting the table for "Now & Then" sweeping next year.

It's a new animated video released in late '22 to promote the Revolver box:

... you don't think

badpee pooper (Eric H.), Monday, 5 February 2024 14:48 (three months ago) link

Nah, it couldn't be that someone who used her acceptance speech to robotically announce the launch date for her next album, timed perfectly to her social media accounts, could just be trying to get attention, could it?

badpee pooper (Eric H.), Monday, 5 February 2024 14:49 (three months ago) link

Of course not. She does everything for altruistic reasons.

poppers fueled buttsex crescendo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 5 February 2024 14:56 (three months ago) link

when they showed her standing there in the crowd it never looked like she was singing the right words to all her favorite songs.

Joni Mitchell stole the show

― Bee OK, Sunday, February 4, 2024 11:14 PM (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink

she sounded truly fantastic. no chance she goes on any kind of real tour but i'm gonna have to make my way to the west coast to see her in the near future

From being the gov't plant who is going to brainwash Bud Light-boycotting America to vote against Donald Trump to breaking Stevie/Paul/Frank's record for most AOTY wins. I'm truly getting allegiance whiplash

didn't feel like lana needed the pity walk either! thanks a lot, "friend".

i think i was just in a bad mood when i watched last night. tracy and joni were fine legendary postage stamps. other than that it was snooze-city.

trevor noah has also reached unfathomable levels of annoying

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Monday, 5 February 2024 15:16 (three months ago) link

Yeah, dragging Lana up there was really awkward as she clearly didn't want to be on that stage even for a second.

Apart from some great performances (Dua Lipa, Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Billie Eilish) the clear highlight of the night was Jay-Z's speech. Calling out the academy for not giving Beyonce album of the year, saying "you don't need to clap for everything", "forget about the Grammys", and some artists don't belong in the category's they're nominated in was really fun to watch. I bet they regret bringing him up there.

kitchen person, Monday, 5 February 2024 15:21 (three months ago) link

And apologizing by saying when he gets nervous he "tells the truth," which is just a magnificent twist of the knife

badpee pooper (Eric H.), Monday, 5 February 2024 15:22 (three months ago) link

"trevor noah has also reached unfathomable levels of annoying"

whenever he stopped saying unfunny ass-kissing stuff and just stood there with that sick fixed smile on his face...you wondered if someone was holding his family hostage.

scott seward, Monday, 5 February 2024 15:26 (three months ago) link

xpost Of course he's complaining about who deserve a stupid fucking Grammy

Beyond Goo and Evol (President Keyes), Monday, 5 February 2024 15:26 (three months ago) link

lol Jay has beefed over dumber things than that. I liked the line about people not belonging in the category because it was a little glimmer of Hova up there, little reminder of who they were giving an award to.

poppers fueled buttsex crescendo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 5 February 2024 15:35 (three months ago) link

I thought it was pretty lame to give JayZ an honorary award in a year when her very good album got 100% snubbed in nominations, so I'm glad he hinted at it.

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Monday, 5 February 2024 15:35 (three months ago) link

The snub was last year, when she lost AOTY to Harry Styles
