I guess my argument is that he was still perceived largely as a blues artist, where Clapton had Cream, Layla, Hendrix is too broad and creative to be a strictly blues artist.

It's probably like "most Billboard Blues chart #1 albums" or something like that. No chance he's outsold SRV, probably hasn't even outsold Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
