wow you guys ate a lot of food since i last read this thread. i couldn't read it all. highlights?

i want to try somewhere new this weekend.

who wants to try bulgogi hot dogs w/ me this weekend?

Aunt Suzie's? I don't think anyone really thinks their food is good. They have longevity, but little else. Better alternatives would be Franny's, Peperoncino, Anthony's, or Bar Tonno. Of course, Al di la is the gold standard for Italian in Park Slope, though it's not typical red-sauce Italian.

disappointing. i'm a sucker for their schtick. peperoncino is surprisingly good. i haven't been to al di la yet. i imagine it's wonderful, but i have yet to find a standby red-sauce place, so i'm on the search for that first and foremost.

Haven't been very adventurous about eating options in "south Kensington" since I moved, but Sietsema reviewed this Azerbaijani/Russian place a stone's throw from my apartment. Who would join me for jiz biz and lamb's balls stew?

Yep, they have the burger at brunch, lunch and dinner, but it's $14 on it's own. So the burger+beer thing is a really good deal, like almost half the regular price. Also, on Tuesday nights all bottles of wine are 1/2 price and they are actually pretty reasonable to begin with--mostly under $30.

so i am too lazy to read this whole thread, but let me tell you, the best restaurant in NYC is el taqueria y fonda on 108th st and amsterdam.

i also like the dominican place near me that advertises itself as "friend chicken!!!" & has flashy lights.

I have heard that Joya is good for Thai (it's on Court St. in what I guess is Cobble Hill - sorry for using "BoCoCa" earlier, I just really don't know the boundaries yet)

Turns out it wasn't that good, actually. Mediocre food in good lighting. But it's a cheap way to get that "goin out in the big city" feeling.

i want to reiterate to everyone again for the 100th time JUST HOW MUCH i hate Sea in williamsburg. it ruins my day approximately 4 times per week.

joya, sadly, is the best thai (to my knowledge) in bo co ca.

Yeah, I tried some other place on smith street and it was pretty average. Joya at least wasn't completely formulaic thai, but it had almost no spice and certain things were all wrong (my supposedly krapow-style dish was swimming in salty brown sauce and my wife's bland seafood dish had american-style veggies).

THAT SAID, i get thai in manhattan a lot at zabb city (which lauren does not like, but they are vv good on basics and occasionally stellar.)

So far the best food I've had in my neighborhood by far is Fatoosh. Better than Saul.

a falafel joint would make a killing on this stretch of Washington Ave.

but i do hear amarin is good, from friends in greenpoint.

Lauren should give Zabb another few shots. The original Zabb in Queens now has a new owner, but maybe the same chef. The food is a notch below where it was at before, but still pretty great. Their Crispy Pork with Chinese Broccoli is the best I've had, and their Crispy Duck Salad (or Crispy Mock-Duck Salad) is still aces.

But the best thing I've ever eaten in a thai restaurant is still the Sweet Sausage Salad at Sripraphai.

I also hate to repeat myself but I live within blocks of at least 7 or 8 Thai places that are all worlds better then any place outside of Queens.

I want to eat bulgogi dogs. But not this weekend--sister is in town and I'm not sure she would appreciate. Last night went to Bemelman's Bar ($20 martinis with free potato chips) and then to Sakagura--not what I was expecting. Was more theme-y and bamboo-y--certainly didn't remind me of any place in Japan. Food just so so and lots of sake--just got the sampler.

sripraphai is amazing. i have not explored a lot of thai in nyc because most of it is so disappointing, but now that i know how easy it is to get to woodside, i would join people for sripraphai almost any day.

Pam Real Thai is the best I've had. Still haven't been to sripraphai

I'd still possibly go back to Joya -- you can get an ok meal and a decent beer for like $12 and the atmosphere is good.

has anyone been to any of those cocktail-revivalist places like pegu, pdt, death & co, milk & honey? are they good/worth it? i have a friend in town who ran a speakeasy while we were in college and i thought he might like them...

what does a college speakeasy entail?

i go to hotel delmano all the time case a friend of mine works there so you know free drinks

i would say those places the drinks are really yummy the steez is wack and the whole situation is overpriced - so 1 out of a possible 3 - theyre good if you just want to have a really well made drink or two i guess

college speakeasy basically just means he and a couple friends set up a bar in their house--they were a bunch of super-fastidious borderline-ocd x-country runners so everything was done very professionally, beautiful drinks, nice space, i thot it was way fun... i think he would probably be into the steez which is mostly like... throwback prohibition-era rite? dunno just lookin for something to do in manhattan
