She had a critically acclaimed turn in “Maid”, recently. I always liked her, despite her confoundingly bad acting chops; Minnie Driver was a slightly better actor but has none of Andie’s odd charisma

Driver is a typical product of the UK private school system i.e an irritating, entitled af personality and full of shit, and this completely permeates her acting style. I still like Groundhog Day, don't like anything I have ever seen Driver in.

Eh, I met Driver once (we were being interviewed on the same radio show, I was up first); she was exactly as polite and friendly as I would want a total stranger to be.

Saw Fellowship of the Ring last month on da big screen, Orlando Bloom did everything he was called on to do, which was mostly stand there and look pretty, which is all most film actors do, like this is a movie where Liv Tyler’s performance is a parody of itself and of all future Lord of the Rings themed weddings, and it’s good, most performances in the movie have the wide-eyed blankness of Bresson models and nobody really knows the English language, most of the whole seventeen hour runtime is Elijah Wood’s humongous dewy eyes

Like in context, of what relevance is it what Orlando Bloom can do with his face

I thought about this thread recently as I was watching one of MacDowell’s daughters getting a ball repeatedly bounced off her head in Poor Things

imo Margaret Qualley can act a bit better but she definitely has some of her mom’s energy

Im leery of getting into criticising models-turned-actors (even if they were never actually models, iygwim) but demi moore is particularly bad, right?

Yes they do. I had no idea they were actually mother-daughter, but any time MacDowell was on screen I was too mesmerised by her "cartoon bipolar" performance in general to really think about her chemistry with Qualley. I think they're both great in that series fwiw.
