x-posts - they opened a DD here but the sizes are UK sizes and it's pour over and not the same at all. They also made roast dinner stuffed donuts which just no please stop this.

I'm sure the dunkins booze is disgusting but I'd try it in a heartbeat.

mark you could leave the little puck of grounds in the aeropress for a couple of hours and then eject it with extreme prejudice once it's dried out some
― Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 14 December 2023 10:59 (four months ago) link
and here's a pro-tip, if you tire of sourcing the paper filter discs you could spring for this reasonably priced re-usable metal one

just don't throw it away by accident. no of course i have never done that*
*reader i have done that

leave the puck in to reuse immediately for a second cup, you mean? yes i could -- i will try that once i use up (or tire of) this box-full of used grounds
my second-cup conclusion re the experiment this morning is that reused grounds be very much tastin like reused grounds: it's coffee but it's not especially delicious
― mark s, Thursday, 14 December 2023 11:07 (four months ago) link
i mean after you’ve pressed your coffee you could leave the puck in there to dry instead of in another container
― Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 14 December 2023 11:16 (four months ago) link
i like saying “puck” we need to create more reasons to use this word

lol i know. Also, no breakfast sandwiches.

fast food places have to cater to local tastes which usually means better food than the US version, but not in the UK lol

Or maybe just more hockey.

x-post Ha yes that's usually the way it works. There's a McDonald's I was reading about recently somewhere in the US now that serves weird items from other Macdonald's around the world. That's kind of neat.
I was just hopeful I'd be able to get a giant iced coffee but no. There is an Egg Slut around my office and I think that's an American breakfast sandwich place so will try that eventually.

My burr grinder just broke (like, right before I'm traveling for a month) and I blame opening this thread for that.

I would 100% try a paneer quarter pounder. I'm sorry it was bad tho.

Is a paneer quarter pounder like that Thailand Burger King real cheeseburger that’s just 20 slices of cheese?
― o. nate, Thursday, 14 December 2023 17:34 (four months ago) link
it was a paneer patty, a dry thin paneer patty

Not quite what I thought 'roast dinner donut' was gonna be but still bizarro
The collaboration you didn’t know you needed this Festive season… DUNKIN’ X Bisto! A combination of two powerhouses in the world of food bring you a festive special that’s too delicious (and unique) to miss.
Presenting a hand finished donut topped with sage & onion stuffing, lashings of Bisto gravy and filled with a delicious apple sauce. DUNKIN’ UK’s new “Aah! DUNKIN’” is a delightful fusion of sweet and savoury, classic and modern, crunchy and smooth. It’s the Bisto of both worlds.

― | (Latham Green), Thursday, 14 December 2023 20:57 (four months ago) link
xp Bisto is a brand of gravy powder here. You mix the powder (or granules, I guess) with juices from the roast meat. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisto
― mojo dojo casas house (gyac), Thursday, 14 December 2023 21:07 (four months ago) link
That's what my googling revealed, and I thought, That can't possibly be right.
― immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 14 December 2023 21:09 (four months ago) link
Oh it’s delicious tbh, or at least the powder is. Think granules are when you don’t use it with meat juices.
― mojo dojo casas house (gyac), Thursday, 14 December 2023 21:17 (four months ago) link
I get that, but on a donut?
I thought it was a misspelling of "Bistro."
― immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 14 December 2023 21:21 (four months ago) link
Sounds like a limited edition gimmick product ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
― mojo dojo casas house (gyac), Thursday, 14 December 2023 21:31 (four months ago) link
*ahem* A hand finished limited edition gimmick product.
― immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 14 December 2023 21:33 (four months ago) link
G is correct. Bisto is very good for instant gravy but it has no business ever being anywhere near a donut gimmick or otherwise.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 14 December 2023 22:41 (four months ago) link
The choc sauce/fries thing reminds me of how people dip the fries in the shakes at Wendy's. Isn't that a thing? I'd try that too.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 14 December 2023 22:43 (four months ago) link
Yeah, def a thing. Personally never done that, but know quite a few people that are regular Wendy's frosty fry dippers.

today as an experiment i recycled a whole boxful of grounds, to try and get a second cups-worth from them
why would you do this to yourself? it's like smoking a refry you found in an ash tray. I think grounds make pretty good compost/fertilizer
― beard papa, Friday, 15 December 2023 20:42 (four months ago) link
Yeah mine go in the compost.
I’d sooner just drink cheap coffee than reuse grinds.
