most of my life i've been living in bad neighborhoods, the kind with republicans in them, so i guess it makes sense that i don't know my neighbors. i'm living in a good neighborhood now but it's all rentals, people move in and out all the time, people are just in from texas usually, i just don't get the opportunity to know people well. also some people might think i'm the bad neighbor, i had kind of a bad couple months early in the year and i was doing a lot of screaming.

what's this thread about again? oh, danny elfman being a creep. see, i knew something was off about him when i heard he was a republican. you can't trust those fuckers, even if they try to make themselves normal by forming a cult called "the mystic knights of the oingo boingo".

The father/husband in the family next door works for the sheriff (in some administrative capacity). He’s outwardly mild, but we’ve had a few signals of what his politics are like.

A house around the corner had a Trump yard sign in 2020 (at one point, someone threw it in a puddle a few streets over, but it was retrieved and displayed again). I never actually saw the guy who lives there until recently – he’s never outside when I walk by, and I avoid the house anyway. Turns out he’s younger than I pictured… he actually kind of looked like one of those two dudes I mentioned earlier, from the last place we lived.

While we now know disgusting and horrible things about elfman, it seems pretty clear he isn’t a republican, or at least not in the last ~20 years. Just based on stuff in interviews and articles etc.

The complaint includes an image of an email from a lawyer for Mr. Portnow, sent in November 2018, relaying what it said was a personal message from Mr. Portnow to the woman.

“Please know that I have always respected you in every way at all times, both professionally and personally,” the message reads. “I remember your indicating your interest and belief in the teachings of Buddha and I found this saying which resonates with you now: ‘Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace.’”

from what I remember, when these lawsuits loop in a third party, the third party is usually like "no comment" but I guess it's so bad that Kid Cudi (through his spokesperson but still) confirmed the car blowing up

I'm really glad to see dawn richard supporting her - this must be a painful situation for her to be in - hard to know how much of it is news to her and it's none of my business really. how much was known within the industry and for how long?

don't doubt the reason it took her this long to come forward was just the overwhelming power and influence and wealth of her abuser led her, someone who was no longer had her own cultural cachet (maybe by design from PD, who knows?), to feel powerless and that no one would listen to her. i'm glad she found the power though.

a lot of these rumors were in the gossip pages for years evidently ... I think some took them as apocryphal esp because there was always an aura of homophobia (to this day some of the most engaged-with posts about this stuff on twitter are basically some variety of 'damn I wonder now if the MEN will come forward!!' titillation) and deranged conspiratorialism around some of them (see: jaguar wright talking about how its suspicious that andre harrell died of heart disease al b sure was in a coma because he was on uptown records and that this somehow indicts diddy as a serial killer)

but of course the concern w conspiracies is how it obscures the actual shit, and this kind of reveal DOES make you wonder about what conspiracies werent that at all....

idk, thinking about the mega-expensive legal team Diddy has at his disposal and the edgelord hate campaign that would be coming her way for a few years, I could see getting cold feet. her saying "on terms that I have some level of control" kind of suggests that to me.

yeah I'm glad for Cassie's sake that it's over (if it's truly what she wants deep down in her heart) but part of me wishes she didn't settle, his shit deserves to be thrown wide open into the public (not like there wasn't a lot already with the initial allegations)

its already thrown wide open to the public & this suggests 1) his lawyers were super shook and threw a ton of money at the problem to avoid discovery, and 2) he might still face criminal repercussions, if not from this from related issues that might now pop up, and 3) she didn't want to have to go through the process of a full trial & since she'd already exposed the crimes this was the best solution

the speed of the settlement is mainly a measure of how badly diddy needed it to go away, more than anything
