I've been doing OQL (UK) version since season one. I do Pop Culture Challenge (our version of Pop Solos) from time to time, and can highly recommend COQL (which is basically Only Connect) as well.

Can also recommend Mimirs Well, Fundaesliga and Zephyr Quiz League if you need further quiz fixes.

All individual iterations on the mimir format used in Pop Solos/ICC - the latter two have a slightly different structure - 8 rounds of 2 questions each rather than 5 rounds of 3.

Deep the solos have divisions?

In the UK it starts off randomly with one seeded player, then results see you banded with players who have had similar results to you in this particular tournament - expect Pop Solos works along the same principle

255 contestants, not too many I track, although a certain individual associated with the initials RS (barely) cracked the Top 20, which made me happy, and a certain trivia monster came in third.

Seems like everyone was doing Authors Behaving Badly instead, not that I mind, although I submitted three minutes late on that so my results didn’t count.

…and I have two 1DSs to work on for next year.

I see Greg has one too, didn’t notice any others.

Haha, SCP came up in an OQL UK friendly last week. We were all saying we had no real idea what it was, but all LL players were retrospectively glad of the conversation.

Yes, I do appreciate that defense is pretty much a crapshoot in my ML; my own projections of the get rates of the questions has been way off in a few instances.

also honestly every single answer today should have been 'henry kissinger' with the questions being 'who dated marlo thomas' 'who suborned the paris peace talks' 'who killed the most people' etc

i was just thinking that this season's questions seem easier than usual so far, or at least more in my wheelhouse - feels like a lot more pop culture stuff than usual

though that probably means the rest of the season will be all classical music and ancient geography

disappointed that the beastie boys, to my knowledge, never mentioned the great australian BIGHT

The ingredienthood (or otherwise) of water seems like one of those things that should be settled once and for all in some kind of Quiz Constitution. I didn't even consider it, but see how it might throw you. I thought the Parmentier hint would make this one OK-ish (wiki says "best remembered as a vocal promoter of the potato as a food source for humans in France and throughout Europe"), except it turns out leek was also accepted.

I got bight right because it's part of my flash card set, which also led me to assign it 1 point on defense against someone with a 70% geography score (they got it wrong).

Anyway, I've dug myself out of relegation, with a miraculous win against someone whose worst category is still 50%.

In a kind of reversal of the previous season, I'm lower half in correct answers, but only one point behind Championship qualification, having got a couple of ridiculous breaks with lucky matchups and strange opponent defence.

I'd have known _____ of Biafra but didn't know about the Australian one and I guess wasn't really sure what the definition was.

I need to brag because this season has been frustrating, but I was one of 2 people who got Q2 right yesterday and it was what got me the tie against the player in first place; what's more, they answered more questions right in that match and have 22(!) more TCA than me.

I don't think I am in danger of relegation, but I'm going to end up with my lowest TCA in 20 seasons. Have the questions been harder this season or just not in my wheelhouse?

Only missed one on Music Theory which means I wasn’t one of the umpteenth champs or perfect 12s. Just couldn’t come up with the words Secondary Dominant although of course I am very familiar with the concept.
