Fellas, which actress makes you swoon and you want to marry her so that you don't care how bad the movie is?

<3 <3 <3 Sarah Polley. Though I wish she quit doing boring dramas and did more stuff like Dawn Of The Dead.

I used to have a huge crush on her about 8 years ago. I don't remember when or why exactly but it's pretty much disappeared; I kind of even dislike her now.

Maggie Cheung. Mmmmm.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 8 August 2009 02:06 (fourteen years ago) link

Hence why they fit here, and perhaps why no one's mentioned obvious contenders like Juliette Binoche or Helena Bonham Carter: they manage not to be cast in dreck without other redeeming qualities. Kristen Scott Thomas, with the exception of that Prince vehicle, probably doesn't belong in this thread either.

Few of the actresses here are chameleons of a Meryl Streep nature (and arguably, that's not an adorable type that audiences can fall in love with). These all are cast because they drag their own affectations, history, and sparks into the fray. Dying Polley in Life Without Me wouldn't be as affecting had we not watched her evolve in Munchausen and Exotica. Parker is just cast as prickly characters. It works for her. Can you imagine Hepburn cast as an ingenue? Me neither.

Derelict, Saturday, 8 August 2009 02:07 (fourteen years ago) link

Binoche has been in plenty of mediocre films, and HB Carter has been in some true dogs. Sadly Helena's track record is so spotty that I won't watch movies just for her anymore.

haha speaking of which what happened to all the natale portman crushes? - Many of them were unhealthy to begin with, as they were rooted in the Lolita-isms of The Professional. Even so, whichever NP crushes survived the first two SW prequels would have been invariably obliterated by Garden State.

portman has seemed very sour of late. also she is a terrible actress.

xp. But, but, Theory of Flight was "funny, poignant, and deeply intelligent" according to critic's blurbs in the trailer. I'm actually going to have it seek it out given the synopsis...

Cathy Keener is another solid choice.

Also, the young Sissy Spacek.

So many of this actresses make mainly good films. I thought it was ppl whose work includes a lot of shit movies you watch just because they're hot.

ENBB, Saturday, 8 August 2009 10:07 (fourteen years ago) link

Minka Kelly.
She hasn't done many movies yet, and I actively like Friday Night Lights, but I could just stare at her all day. Plus, she's far and away the worst actor on FNL. That has to count for something, right?

I can't think of any. I don't really watch movies tbh.

Audrey Hepburn, Karen Black, Lili Taylor.

And I've had a crush on Jodie Foster since I was 9. (Never considered killing the Prime Minister tho)

After her 30 Rock appearance, I've been very taken with the re-emergence of Anna Chlumsky. Anyone making this face:

Pretty sure I would not have seen Disturbing Behavior, The Gift, or Abandon if not for Katie Holmes, though she's a pretty terrible actress.

Can't figure out why she's not cast in everything. So hot. Also, she named her son "Audio Science" with gets about 1B bonus points.

Yes, I love her too. I watched 40 days and 40 nights because of her for christ's sake. Her character's name in that was Erica iirc. :-)
