I like it too, but calling it Black Dice meets VCN is an oversell

it wasn't really meant to be, like, an endorsement. more like "these dudes were probably listening to VCN and black dice a lot when they recorded it because it's a passable imitation."

I wouldn't compare it to vision creation newsun just because its so non-rhythmic even if the overall mix and individual sounds approach parts of it

two weeks pass...

The new Kevin Douch solo album (Total Life - Ken Bradshaw) is available from the Social Registry website. Took me while to track it down.

I'm still getting to grips with it but there's definitely a distinct progression akin to pre/post Color Wheel Growing between this one and his first solo effort. Which I guess isn't entirely unexpected.

I'm pretty much in agreement with the "'Beaches and Canyons' but without the rhythms or any sense of direction" descriptions, and yet I think I like "All the Way" more than "Beaches and Canyons". B&C without the rhythms would still be pretty great, but I think the shorter songs on "All the Way" have a lot to do with it ... Black Dice in 2003-4 would lose the plot and find it again about two or three times over the course of a fifteen minute song, but Growing go six minutes and out and I think I prefer the simplicity of that style.

It does not remind me of Black Dice, it reminds me of that Hisham album, soft circle or whatever

"pavement rich in gold" is one of the epics of the decade, up there with ghost's "grisaille," skm's "duk koo kim," and sm's "1% of 1"

three years pass...

I'm hearing this band for the first time, with no sense of what I should expect, and it is totally knocking me out. (Specifically The Sky's Run Into the Sea.)

So this band got back together and made a new record this year - two songs, 40 minutes. It's a lot closer in style to their earlier, dronier records.

Based on a couple of listens - I like it, though not as much as the first few albums. In any case I think this band is one of the most underrated acts of the 00s.
