Anyway, these assholes are always so full of shit. I keep seeing clips of Republican dickweeds saying shit like "we have 10x the evidence of Biden's corruption than they have of even made-up Trump evidence," or "we are this close to getting rid of the Deep State" or exonerating Trump or whatever bullshit. But they never produce the evidence. Because of course there is none, or it's the same invented, refuted bullshit presented in a different order.

Using the successful formula of social media clickbait (big juicy dramatic headlines based on something flimsy or misconstrued) to keep supporters hooked and confuse general consensus through the magic of relentless "well I thought I heard" surface level perception manipulation.

It's effective too, at least with sympathetic audiences. A whole lot of people who only get information from right-wing media now firmly believe that there is strong irrefutable proof of the Biden Crime Family's misdeeds, and that the lack of prosecution for it is entirely a function of the Deep State.

If you ask them what the evidence is, they'll just say things like, "It's everywhere! You can look it up!" And if you knock down any given talking point, they just cycle to another.

After all this time, all they really have is an email that mentions "the big guy."

honestly no clue how this is gonna shake out, my cynical side says Republican voters are gonna rally around him anyway cuz that's what they always do but the amount of mental gymnastics these people are gonna have to do in 2024 is outright insane. not really sure how you come back from 95 felony charges

like idk maybe he gets a friendly judge and a couple of closet Trumpers on the jury that somehow allows him to skate and he can play the "witch hunt" card again like he did after Russia and both impeachments but its not like that really helped the GOP electorally either

that probably describes like 80% of the Republican party but there are a lot of center-right folks and moderates who don't think that way. he won independents 2:1 in 2016 and that's why he became President. he managed to turn off most of them in 2020 and I don't think getting arrested every month is gonna bring em back

and sure enthusiasm for Biden is low but enthusiasm for keeping Trump out of office is really high and that's why Biden got the most votes in American history. the "he's literally gonna try to end democracy" pitch came off hyperbolic in 2020 but I'm guessing it'll play way better now

the polls are mostly national right now and they have way too high an undecided % in them to be anything but noisey. the latest Fox News one, which still had Biden ahead, had like 15% undecided in it.

Independents in the poll don't really like either candidate, but you can be sure these indictments, as they progress further, are going to peel off a little bit of that number. Republicans showed less support for Trump than Dems for Biden (something I never thought I'd see). I would also wager there's a sliver of people in D/Ind camp who are non-decisive in the poll because they don't think Biden will be the nominee, which he didn't have to contend with during similar polls in 2019 as he was just one of many candidates in the D poll at that point of time, whereas he's the actual President now with a secondary candidate polling in the low double digits. not realistic, but undecided voters are usually stupid.

I feel like Biden might paradoxically have tougher sledding this time around despite being an incumbent, but at the same token, the idea that indictment proceedings are going to have no material effect on Independent voters (or even a tiny bit of movement on R voters) is kind of absurd.

midterms did a lot to quash those fears for me, inflation got really high and really was affecting a lot of shit, and naturally it seemed people were gonna blame Dems for it cuz that's what always happens. but it didn't really shake out that way.

Anyone who is still undecided at this point should be stripped of their right to vote IM(undemocratic)O. Regardless of how low-info a voter you are, how do you not have at least enough of an opinion about Donald Trump to have an idea of the general direction you're gonna go?

Welll, I dunno, maybe if he exceeds 100 indictments, I'll consider making a decision. Until then I'm just not sure. It's a toughie!

fwiw, I wasn't talking about "undecideds", I was just responding to frogbs' comment about Republican voters doing mental gymnastics to keep voting for him. there's also those GOP voters who will vote Trump simply because, "suck it, woke libs" is their only thought process entering the voting booth.

also fwiw, I'm not arguing that there are enough of these voters to put him back in office, rather just addressing the "how can people keep voting for this guy" line.

He has gone up in the polls, so you are probably right. On the other hand, if--and this is a huge if--he gets convicted before November of next year, a lot of voters may opt out.

There is absolutely nothing Trump could do that would make his cult vote against him.

Usually at this point in the election cycle my CW is that "a lot can happen in the next 14½ months, so nothing is close to decided, yet." This time I'd have to say that the Republican nominee will be Trump again or the party becomes a de facto headless chicken.
