really liked the new album by lostrushi, which exists somewhere on the plugg/hyperpop axis

ooh that's good, will have to check out the album

the recent easyfun ep is quite good, for fans of his production work with charli. "no body" is even a pop 2 outtake, just this version has noonie bao (i think?) sharing lead vocals with charli

superb stuff all round
great to see easyFun back - laplander is one of my favs from whole pc music catalog

Ly Trang's older records are also worth looking into fwiw. I especially like this collab with Aprxel from 2020 https://aprxel.bandcamp.com/album/am-pm

new jane remover (fka dltzk) album on the way!

ufo, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 20:39 (eight months ago) link

The mixtape from Bandmanrill, Sha Ek and McVertt reminded me of old bop-mixtapes, so I googled around a bit, and found this great article on how bop-artists like Sicko Mobb inspired the hyperpop of today: https://southsideweekly.com/finding-chicago-bop-in-todays-hyperpop/. I miss bop, and it definitely sounded like PC Music.

McVertts productions are only a couple of noises away from hypergarbage as well, imo. I love this type of hiphop.

Frederik B, Tuesday, 29 August 2023 12:34 (eight months ago) link

yeah i feel like sicko mobb basically pioneered the sound of hyperpop more than anyone although i don't really know how directly you can trace the influence. "remember me" is still an all-time favourite

Will be shocked if of all today's releases, anything comes close to the Anjimile for me

https://anjimile.bandcamp.com/album/the-king

The blurb doesn't really come close to describing it imo. It's like...both more tuneful and more avant-garde than it'd have you think?

imago, Friday, 8 September 2023 20:13 (seven months ago) link

the first track there is extremely cool, will check out the rest

ufo, Saturday, 9 September 2023 04:23 (seven months ago) link

yeah, dug that, thanks for the tip

new jane remover is wonderful hyper-shoegaze, looking forward to the album

the anjimile album is decent but the rest is a bit of a let down after just how bold the opening track is

ufo, Wednesday, 20 September 2023 05:15 (seven months ago) link

I don't know if it fits better here or in the J-pop thread, but there are some great songs on the last 4s4ki album.

it's so funny that 4s4ki made a album about code geass in 2023. the album's decent but i haven't come back to it as much as her previous one

ufo, Wednesday, 20 September 2023 11:00 (seven months ago) link

that jane remover single is indeed wonderful

new diana starshine (hyperpop) sounding dece

new hemlocke springs EP (bedroom synthpop) is gr8, she of the doing a song called 'girlfriend' that was very secretly soty 2022 lol

imago, Friday, 29 September 2023 21:27 (seven months ago) link

d starshine better than dece tbf. really takes off at 'drippin'. orange milk know what they're doing!!!

imago, Friday, 29 September 2023 21:31 (seven months ago) link

three weeks pass...

the jane remover album rules but isn't really as inventive as frailty was. it's just great heavy shoegaze, quite similar to the last hum album just less interested in riffs. that's something i'm very happy to have even if it isn't as exciting

ufo, Friday, 20 October 2023 05:04 (six months ago) link

enjoying this so far

imago, Friday, 20 October 2023 13:59 (six months ago) link

it's sonically good, the melodies are maybe a bit stale at times but impressive sound-world idk

imago, Friday, 20 October 2023 16:27 (six months ago) link

wow the diana starshine album is incredible, it's how i'm feeling now turned up to 11

the only issue i have is it's too short and so are all the tracks! there are soooo many ideas here surely they could stretch out some of these tracks for more than 3 minutes lol

ufo, Saturday, 21 October 2023 09:55 (six months ago) link

this sort of thing better too short than too long tbf imo

This is rly great btw, don't let it be overshadowed by Katie Dey, Aerosmith or the endless fucking classic rock churnathon that's taken over ILM

New FRAADS album might by Danish AOTY. The kind of hypergarbage adjacent hiphop that sounds like a mix of Playboi Carti and Max Tundra, with so many voices in play at all times, and relentlessly light and pretty. This one even modulates at the 2:00 like a goddamn Eurovision song.

finally getting to marina herlop, and wow. each song so beautiful and surprising. "cosset" is bjork meets breakcore (bjorkcore) and done incredibly well, one of my faves of the year.
