DoJ isn't fucking around
BREAKING: DoJ has filed a motion for a PROTECTIVE ORDER in the trump coup case based on Donald’s social media posts. DoJ argues that improper dissemination of evidence could have a chilling effect on witnesses. I believe they’ll be granted this motion. pic.twitter.com/kBoJjk1shL— Mueller, She Wrote (@MuellerSheWrote) August 5, 2023

A dozen Trump supporters approached Mike Pence’s vehicle as he entered his Friday event yelling, “that’s a traitor,” “you’re a sellout,” and “why didn’t you uphold the constitution?” “I upheld the constitution,” Pence shouted back. As they badgered him he yelled, “Read it!” pic.twitter.com/gKpeB2mntO— Kelsey Walsh (@Kjwalsh_news) August 5, 2023
Meanwhile, what were assholes like Pence thinking? For years he defended Trump, or avoided criticizing Trump. He dragged his feet when asked to give testimony about Trump or be formally interviewed about Trump. He put up with all sorts of affronts to his purported morality, at the cost of his credibility and, in some cases, literally putting his life at risk. And this is all in service of a guy that despises him, and his supporters, who also despise him. And then, years later, he finally takes a turn for the minimally righteous, and no one gives a shit. All that stalling, all that shallow stoicism and sophistry, was in service of nothing, and he will go down in history as a footnote, disliked by the majority of both sides, having gotten nothing in return. It would be downright Job-like had it not all been self-inflicted and totally avoidable from the start.

lmao of course they don't know how things work.
Here's the thing, though: they really do. They just pretend not to in order to gin up outrage and, hence, donations. They also pretend to be a watchdog group when they are, in fact, right-wing attack dogs.

It seems like they do a lot of filing legal requests and lawsuits that probably waste a considerable amount of time for various states and counties?

heard part of the reason trump's lawyers wanted a delay is so they could appear on every sunday morning show that would have them
Meanwhile, what were assholes like Pence thinking?
over the last 40 years countless people have tried to harness trump's fame, or money, or following, for their own benefit. all the lawyers/contractors/financial partners/political parties thought they could use him rather than being used by him, and they've almost all been wrong. pence is just one of them
two who *have* gotten away with using him are the saudis and rupert murdoch, because they're much richer and care even less about their 'reputations' than he does

On Saturday, Chutkan gave Trump's team until 5 p.m. ET on Monday to respond to prosecutors' request for a protective order. The order would prevent the former president and his legal team from sharing discovery materials with the public. Trump's attorneys asked for more time to prepare their response, which Chutkan swiftly denied.
"THERE IS NO WAY I CAN GET A FAIR TRIAL WITH THE JUDGE 'ASSIGNED' TO THE REDICULOUS FREEDOM OF SPEECH/FAIR ELECTIONS CASE. EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS, AND SO DOES SHE," Trump wrote on his social media site Truth Social Sunday morning.

Trump (like Musk and plenty of other ludicrously entitled rich dudes) just utterly refuses to accept that any rules ever apply to him. And he’s usually maddeningly right. But judges tend to be very much not amused by that kind of shit.

the moment in 2020 where I started to feel like Trump was probably gonna lose was right after that first debate when Trump came off as incredibly rude and obnoxious, just shouting over everything and not actually answering a single question. even the Republican voters who were surveyed about it said he was acting like a caged animal. feels like 2024 is gonna be much worse, dealing not only with 3-4 indictments in different states (or more!) but also the rigor of the campaign, he's gonna totally lose his mind

― lag∞n, Monday, 7 August 2023 01:50 (eight months ago) link
in addition to standing and singing along with your hand over your heart, you're supposed to cry ecstatic tears of joy when you get to the line about how "the flag was still there". then at the big finish about "land of the freeeeeeeee and the home --- of the ---- brave" you should pull out your concealed handgun and shoot off several rounds into the air, or at any liberals who failed to show proper respect. at least that's how I was taught to do it in my elementary school.

I'm stuck waiting on someone, so a quick 🧵I've been meaning to write, pulling together a few strands. In his book The School for Dictators, Ignazio Silone famously called fascism "a counter-revolution against a revolution that never took place." This sure is a pretty unique defense strategy:
Attorney John Eastman, an architect of Donald Trump’s last-ditch efforts to subvert the 2020 election, is asking a California judge to postpone disbarment proceedings lodged against him, saying he’s increasingly concerned he’s about to be criminally charged by special counsel Jack Smith.

“WOW, it’s finally happened! Liddle’ Mike Pence, a man who was about to be ousted as Governor Indiana until I came along and made him V.P., has gone to the Dark Side,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday.
“I never told a newly emboldened (not based on his 2% poll numbers!) Pence to put me above the Constitution, or that Mike was ‘too honest.’ He’s delusional, and now he wants to show he’s a tough guy,” Trump added, denying information that was contained in the indictment. “I once read a major magazine article on Mike. It said he was not a very good person. I was surprised, but the article was right. Sad!”
