So did you go?

Going through some new releases for the first time in a bit --

Piezo - Cyclic Wavez EP on Nervous Horizon
https://piezopz.bandcamp.com/album/cyclic-wavez-ep
Some stellar quirky bangers, check out 'Bbent'

MM & NKC - Grindhouse EP on Even the Strong
https://massivemusic.bandcamp.com/album/grindhouse
I'm kinda digging this return to 110 bpm early '10s beats, also brings to mind hyphy, Neptunes, b-boy battles, etc

Impey & Kevin JZ Prodigy - Give It 2 Me
https://ghostnotesworldwide.bandcamp.com/album/give-it-2-me
This beat has a similar slight throwback vibe to me too, I'm into it, and of course the legendary KJZP makes any beat sound amazing

Ploy - For when we haven't slept EP
https://ployuk.bandcamp.com/album/for-when-we-havent-slept
I don't necessarily love the vocal samples on these...

Nikki Nair + Breaka + Thys - Extra Playtime
https://nikkinair.bandcamp.com/album/extra-playtime
Just delightful rough-edged bangers

i'm loving that nikki nair. piezo impressing me too. sorry to plop into your great thread with this but if you hear anything you like that's 120-135 bpm please don't hesitate to post it lol. but that probably would make it non-non bobbins or techno, idk.

i guess the ploy is slower. i need to dig back through the thread.

Ooh, have you heard the new BFTT EP? All four-on-the-floor and I think they're all stunners (tracks 2 and 3 are in your range).

https://bftt.bandcamp.com/album/thp

I've got something coming out that I want to send you, but I'll wait until it's mastered and has a release date. :)

New Peatbog Faeries album is fantastic. Their best since the 2000s. This isn't always despite the inclusion of guest vocals on some songs which is a first for them and which frequently work very well. The only one which doesn't quite work for me (yet?) is The Sister of Moses which is a straight up folk ballad. But tracks like The Humours of Ardnamurchan, Innes Drinks the Bru and The Poozies Visit to Carbost are marvellous, reminiscent of their best mid-period work (which is only slightly after their peak and only slightly beneath it). Really sympathetic production too.

three weeks pass...

i did not go, I’m not living in the city currently and the prospect of a 7am metro north ride back post club was seeming not apt as an activity for 40 year olds …

anyways enjoying this martyn track, seems like he’s an underrated precursor to some of this stuff

I would agree with that, his 3024 label is solid too (and I love his jazz show on NTS).

Bobby Beethoven's (nee Total Freedom) RA mix is really taking me back, in the spirit of this thread:

(also I assume that folk music post was intended for another thread, lol)

This DJ Znobia record from Nyege Nyege is killer, apparently a forefather of kuduro and most of these tracks (which come from the late '90s to the mid '00s) would fit on a brand new Principe release.

Love this track from the new DJ JM EP on Nervous Horizon
https://djjm1.bandcamp.com/track/pepper

Also loving that 96 Back two-tracker on Local Action that I posted to the bobbins thread.

Still haven't fully digested this 14 track record (!) from Loppy B on Decisions but it's cool

borderline to include on this thread, but man, the second track on the new overmono LP is just nuts. Deserves some sort of award for Ableton mastery or something. Dislike the rest of the album though (this is EP music!)

Maloca and Hihats in Trees have both been really killing it:
https://maloca.bandcamp.com/album/artefacts

Love this new Barker EP (complete with kick drums!)
https://sambarker.bandcamp.com/album/unfixed

New Lukid LP that's more of an ambient record, but really nice:

Lamin Fofana EP on The Trilogy Tapes:

I searched this time (lol), and thought it worth noting that ZULI released a record this year on Nashazphone— it's a "live" set but really it's just him doing a live set in his studio. Good shit!!

whoa zuli is great

also digging the barker ep

ꙮ (map), Friday, 6 October 2023 21:55 (six months ago) link

barker would sound incredible on a huge system

ꙮ (map), Friday, 6 October 2023 22:01 (six months ago) link

first track is legit as good as autechre but the funkiness is .. something, airier or cleaner maybe

ꙮ (map), Friday, 6 October 2023 22:04 (six months ago) link

ooh nice need to check out that live set

I’ve been checking out a bunch of music (and this thread is a great help) but I realized over the last few years that I’d leaned on some friends to guide me through events/festivals and then I’d be hyped about a good dj set or performance

.. looping back around to my point, zuli djing in 2019 was great

the Barker is so good. i listened to the Lamin Fofana earlier and feel i need to listen again but really dug his contribution to this -

stirmonster, Saturday, 7 October 2023 00:34 (six months ago) link

ok I’m going in circles now but I first started listening to Barker after I shazamed a track that was playing in the pre-show music over the system at one of the last two shows I went to in March 2020!

Oh yeah that Beatrice Dillon/LF/Senegalese drumming record is crazy, I need to give that some more listens.

Btw I know I've been overposting it and it's not a club record, but my record was the previous release on TTT and we're just very proud of it:

Thread favorite Zuli with an EP of collected unreleased club tracks, proceeds go to Palestinian aid:
https://zulimusic.bandcamp.com/album/komy-ep

Great new tracks from nunu, also a benefit release:
https://innercircularroute.bandcamp.com/album/luft

Drones over 170+ singeli-style drums from a French producer on Nyege Nyege, pretty sick
https://nyegenyegetapes.bandcamp.com/album/sator-arepo

Always here for Tristan Arp, elegant but slappy:
