"shadow" ;_;

"put it to rest" is going to be my favorite crj song of all time for a while. thinking of it as an indirect sequel to "warm blood," where that took place on the inside this one's on the outside, cool air rushing across bare skin

ivy (BradNelson), Friday, 21 July 2023 15:52 (nine months ago) link

I can't listen to it yet, so i'm stuck revisiting The Loneliest Time.
And i'm realizing i was wrong about "Beach House". It's glorious.

enochroot, Friday, 21 July 2023 17:42 (nine months ago) link

i'm not entirely convinced by the song of "put it to rest" but the textures are absolutely gorgeous

ufo, Friday, 21 July 2023 21:37 (nine months ago) link

Enjoying the variety and new avenues on this.

Psychedelic Switch is almost a Perfume track but with the dial tuned a bit more back towards Daft Punk.

Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 22 July 2023 07:36 (nine months ago) link

This whole album is fantastic, but woah at Put It To Rest. Unbelievable song. Kind of goes a bit Heaven by Emeli Sande towards the end.

I love "Kamikaze"

alpine static, Friday, 28 July 2023 15:22 (nine months ago) link

what is the style of "Put It To Rest" call? that sorta intersection of the stuttering beat and floaty piano ... it's beautiful. i figure it sounds like some style of dance music i'm not familiar with.

Float house?

I think I've made peace with the fact that the only time CRJ and I were really vibing on the same plane was in 2015. Ah well.

ⓓⓡ (Johnny Fever), Saturday, 29 July 2023 02:50 (eight months ago) link

After Last Night, Kollage, Psychedelic Switch and Put It To Rest are up there with my favourite things she's done. I was not expecting to love this album as much as I do.

kitchen person, Saturday, 29 July 2023 20:10 (eight months ago) link

^^ I'd add "So Right" to those picks. I wasn't crazy about "Shy Boy" so I'm also surprised how much I like this album - her first side-B that rivals the parent album imo

Vinnie, Monday, 31 July 2023 00:56 (eight months ago) link

It's the first one I've liked more than the parent album. It might be my favourite since Emotion.

kitchen person, Monday, 31 July 2023 01:13 (eight months ago) link

idk Dedicated Side B was pretty great. And Emotion Side B was "only" an EP. So it's not like this has happened so much.

maf you one two (maffew12), Monday, 31 July 2023 09:45 (eight months ago) link

i think it's easily better and more interesting than dedicated side b, but i prefer the loneliest time as an album to this which is much more eclectic for better & worse

ufo, Monday, 31 July 2023 09:48 (eight months ago) link

It took me a long time to come around to Dedicated and Dedicated Side B. Now I really love them in addition to (and as a continuation of) Emotion. Maybe that will happen to me again with Loneliest/Loveliest, but so far I haven't warmed up to either of them.

peace, man, Monday, 31 July 2023 13:31 (eight months ago) link

Oops got the names mixed up. "Shadow" was the one I'd call a highlight, not "So Right". "So Right" has a nice pre-chorus though

Vinnie, Tuesday, 1 August 2023 12:16 (eight months ago) link

no I'm relistening now and "So Right" is a highlight too. Goddamn it everything is a highlight

Vinnie, Tuesday, 1 August 2023 12:23 (eight months ago) link

“shadow” is really great…

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 August 2023 01:33 (eight months ago) link

it's so great, she and rostam have really got something

ivy., Wednesday, 2 August 2023 01:34 (eight months ago) link

i hesitate to call it one of her best songs about having a crush (so i guess just one of her best songs) but "the architecture of this connection is your reflection / it's always following me" is an amazing pop chorus lyric

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 August 2023 01:57 (eight months ago) link

this album fucking owns

I am very much in love with 'After Last Night'.

Piedie Gimbel, Wednesday, 2 August 2023 13:49 (eight months ago) link

I am very much in love with 'After Last Night' - feels like a drum and bass Joe Hisaishi theme for a Ghibli movie.

Piedie Gimbel, Wednesday, 2 August 2023 13:51 (eight months ago) link

Same about « After Last Night ». I hadn’t noticed it was a Rostam co-written/produced track. It doesn’t have his usual style.

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 2 August 2023 14:22 (eight months ago) link

yeah also surprised it was his track. "Shadow" too. both great songs atypical of his prior productions (that I've heard)

Vinnie, Wednesday, 2 August 2023 16:01 (eight months ago) link

crj and rostam:

warm blood
western wind
go find yourself or whatever
after last night
shadow

they should make a whole album together

ivy., Wednesday, 2 August 2023 17:13 (eight months ago) link

Whoa, this album's great! Way better than the last one for me

Spoke too soon. I'm all on board with Loveliest Time.

Love that.

I managed to see her twice in 8 days just recently (opening for Boygenius and then at Osheaga) and she was delightful as always.

This album is so sick

of everybody tellin' me what to do

peace, man, Monday, 14 August 2023 17:43 (eight months ago) link

"after last night" and "anything to be with you" are immediately my favorite ever carly rae songs.

Kollage on Good Morning America. Amazing performance, although it's just a late night song that it seems a little weird in front of the bright "summer concert series" backdrop.

peace, man, Thursday, 17 August 2023 12:02 (eight months ago) link

Kollage has become my favourite on the album. That's a great performance of it.

does after last night give anyone else super mario 3 vibes?

five months pass...

listening through the ILM albums of 2023 and Kollage popped up, genuinely surprised that Men I Trust weren't involved with that track, it sounds just like them

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 7 February 2024 19:10 (two months ago) link

two months pass...

Revisiting this today and think I absolutely underrated it. Never noticed this before but "So Nice" seems to recall Daft Punk's "Something About Us" (specifically the bass but also the la-las remind me of the electric guitar (?) that enters at about 1 min. in).
