The beta started a while back and now theyre inviting non-subscribers (possibly people who have subscribed in the past) as my alternative account i hardly use got an invite too. So what do you think of it,Stephen?

It won't let me through actually. Says I oughta subscribe. Bah.

the shoutbox is at the bottom of the page and is much much bigger, shows a lot more messages. x-post
does it show both sides of a conversation now? i hope not, it's a really stupid idea that i'm kinda glad they kept, i can't deal with straight up pms

uh
― tremendoid, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 05:38 (fifteen years ago) link
No. But there is an activity feed where you can see where you posted on other shoutboxes/posted on groups or forums/wrote a journal etc.

no weekly chart? fuck that!
― grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:38 (fifteen years ago) link
I will miss the weekly charts, but I quite like the idea of adding non-scrobblable music to your collection (though I suppose there are other sites for that and I don't use those). But what can you do with this info once you've taken the time to add it?
Slighty tempted to stump up the subscriber fee to have a poke at this, but considering I haven't even bothered to check my weekly charts for ages (and it used to be a matter of considerable sad ego-stroking every Monday to look at them and congratulate myself or something) it's probably not worth it.
― a passing spacecadet, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:44 (fifteen years ago) link
You can change your top artist chart to a rolling 7 day one but it's not the same. I like the charts the way they were. They can change the look but they need to keep the principle the same.
― Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:47 (fifteen years ago) link
I bet they've only done this to stop people moaning "my weekly charts haven't updated"
― Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:48 (fifteen years ago) link
Yeah, I too have become obsessed with my weekly chart.
Have also just discovered the delights of the ILXor group radio station- I was unaware that groups had stations: http://www.last.fm/listen/group/ilXor

Your account has been added to the list of users who can access the beta.
However, I get this message when I try to access it: Sorry, the Last.fm Beta site is currently only accessible by subscribers.

I'll bet that within a week of the beta going live there will be a greasemonkey userscript that will allow you to have both charts on your main page.
― musically, Thursday, 3 July 2008 22:35 (fifteen years ago) link
I think the charts will come back as everyone is moaning about it.
― Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 4 July 2008 00:08 (fifteen years ago) link
hmm. having played with it a bit, i really like it. the charts thing doesn't matter so much, i think, if -- as others have said -- you set your top artists to the last seven days. in fact, that way you get a rolling one every day, which is way cooler :)
yes, that means you can't have an overall top artists thing -- but surely that's made up for by the library, which basically does the same job?
i'm quite taken with it, anyway. bring it on.

I want my weekly snapshot!
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 6 July 2008 20:38 (fifteen years ago) link
LastGraph3 is an experimental site trying to come up with ways to graph people's playlists. So far, they do have hotlinkable graphs that always update themselves. Here's mine
http://lastgraph3.aeracode.org/graph/mackromackro/sig1/500/50/
..however, it doesn't really show which artists I've been playing. It doesn't look like much at all, in fact. I think later the site will have some neat hotlinkable stuff. But in the meantime, here's a snapshot from March to July 2008 of my last.fm plays in a neat sunset colored water graphic chart:
http://i30.tinypic.com/2ptyyro.jpg
Now, if they could hotlink THAT, regenerated every load, that would be awesome. Andrew G. who runs the LastGraph3 site, I think, is trying to work on this.

― Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 17 July 2008 16:54 (fifteen years ago) link
What a fucking mess of a design. Who cares about that stupid media player anyway? The library thing also looks extremely useless to me, but takes up big space. Horrible.
If anyone knows a Greasemonky script to make it look like it was before, I'd really appreciate a nudge.

xpost there ya go
i would critique but can't get the fucker to load
― blueski, Thursday, 17 July 2008 16:57 (fifteen years ago) link
I also miss the dashboard overview badly. I'm with you on this Herman, this is insane.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 17 July 2008 16:58 (fifteen years ago) link
Blueski, seems I was just lucky. Mine now looks like a html page from 1995. Djeez.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link
Yeah steve it really is slooooooooooooooow. x-post
Im glad someone agrees with me. That rolling 7 day chart is not the same. I liked it the way it was before, Weekly snapshot on top, then top 50 artists then top 50 tracks. Cant understand why they've changed that PLUS that player is so horrible. Not to mention the shoutbox et al. This really is a change for the worse. And i really hate those last fm arselickers on the forums who are desperate to become staff.
― Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:03 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah wtf about the dashboard? Did they really kill it? Because that was the only reason to bother friending someone as far as I can tell.
― Euler, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:03 (fifteen years ago) link
this is like when facebook did their hueg overhaul. these companies get big money from ads/investments and they don't have shit to do with it except pay programmers to "redesign" the site

shit i should've posted on the forum when i applied for job with them

there is a see who is listening now thing here for friends http://www.last.fm/home
― Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:06 (fifteen years ago) link
fuck them if they nuked dashboard
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:06 (fifteen years ago) link
ok I finally got last.fm/home to load (it keeps timing out), and that's a crappy replacement for dashboard. It just shows one song from each of your friends. What they had before was perfectly good.
― Euler, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:18 (fifteen years ago) link
I haven't even seen it yet (I saw a screenshot of the beta version a few weeks ago somewhere), but what the eff are they doing? What point does it even serve anymore other than for labels to push streaming audio on you? I always liked Audioscrobbler/Last.fm because the benefit lay squarely with the user, but now it's all about the provider.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:26 (fifteen years ago) link
front page is inexcusable
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:30 (fifteen years ago) link
'selling out' will do that i guess xp
― blueski, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:30 (fifteen years ago) link
That activity thing is a load of shite
― Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:46 (fifteen years ago) link
Finally got it to load. Damn. Pitiful.
Having the shoutbox at the bottom of the page does absolutely no good. And get rid of that fucking media player! And I never go to the home page, not when I had a dashboard anyway.
Fuck this.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:48 (fifteen years ago) link
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/9416/lastfmnu0.png
This what the 'dashboard' looks like for me, now. FAIL. Everything I liked about it has been dragged down to the bottom. Media player, recommendations, 'my stations'... all the things I couldn't care less about is featured prominently. Whereas the songs my 'friends' are listening have been put away on the right side. Too bad I just paid three days ago for the renewal, this blows.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:48 (fifteen years ago) link
Shite, that's big, sorry
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:49 (fifteen years ago) link
For some reason the see who has visited you recently thing isnt on my page now either. They better bring that back.
― Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:52 (fifteen years ago) link
what the fuck is YOUR LIBRARY anyway
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:53 (fifteen years ago) link
^^^that's really the best perk of a subscription. xp
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:54 (fifteen years ago) link
ha + with a subscription you could listen to your own radio station but it seems like now you don't need one to do that
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:56 (fifteen years ago) link
weeklies are still there if you click "Last 7 Days ----> see more -----> or browse by weekly snapshots"

ITT, people struggle to cope with change
― The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Thursday, 17 July 2008 18:18 (fifteen years ago) link
True, but that doesn't mean some change just isn't good. In the case of last.fm, "that's not change we can believe in!"
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 17 July 2008 18:23 (fifteen years ago) link
I wish you could drag compartments around like you can on Facebook. Change schmange...I just want all the info where it was before. They can put bells and whistles on the design if they want, but I'm completely disoriented.
