which teams have actually gotten better in a real way…?
― J0rdan S., Friday, June 30, 2023 10:03 PM (two minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink
the big stuff is all happening via trades now. this part of the cycle is increasingly just filling the margins.

amid all this seth curry gets 4m
Sources: The Mavericks used their $4-plus million biannual exception on Seth Curry, a 43.5% career 3-point shooter returning for his third stint in Dallas. https://t.co/OJqOgrOFEr— Tim MacMahon (@espn_macmahon) July 1, 2023

i saw someone say this in relation to FVV the other day but apparently the TV deal is going up in two years & so it will be a good offseason to be a FA. that must be what the bruce brown thing is about
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:07 (ten months ago) link
FVV would actually be a great fit next to luka
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:08 (ten months ago) link
but they've limited annual cap raises to 10% so i'm not sure that will result in an insane amount of new money? idk maybe i'm wrong about that.

Seems like the right deal for both sides. He needs to return to form tho

5/260 haliburton 5/207 bane

bane is a wonderful role player but hooo boy
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:08 (ten months ago) link
i guess once all these guys eventually extend it will normalize but $41m a year is more than shai, ja, mitchell, garland, zion, bam, fox...
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:14 (ten months ago) link
feelin a little better about the jerami grant contract
― Clay, Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:15 (ten months ago) link
how was bane eligible for such a big raise on a rookie extension without all-star/all-nba? is it just the cap space growth?
― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:19 (ten months ago) link
i like halliburton a lot but thats a deal you make with the confidence that hes at least the second best guy on a contender.
― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:20 (ten months ago) link
yeah bane is getting a 25% of the cap max which is non supermax so it’s just a reflection of the cap raising all the writers on twitter are saying it’s a no brainer deal
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:51 (ten months ago) link
he's really good! i dont know what the correct amount of money is for guys who are really good.
― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:52 (ten months ago) link
like, the top (x) guys in the league, its obvious, just max and relax. for those secondary stars, i guess the standard operating procedure is to max them too but feel less good about it. the third guy...you cant max him and have any depth without plunging to tax hell. is bane their second best guy?
― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:54 (ten months ago) link
he’s their third best player… he is better than MPJ who is a similar third best player (well theoretically anyway) on a max w/ other young core guys, but memphis does not have a jokic what’s nuts tho is that JJJ is actually on a declining contract. $27m this coming year then $25m then $23m… gotta be one of the team friendliest deals in the league. that last year he’ll be making less than like half the league at this rate
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 06:01 (ten months ago) link
JJJ: good contract for memphis
― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 06:04 (ten months ago) link
the point abt jokic is key, if youve got an mvp-caliber player which at this point is not a lot of guys (jokic, giannis, embiid, maybe tatum, maybe luka, maybe steph still, not lebron anymore), fuck it, throw the bag at the team that meshes well with that guy. it's worked for the last few champions. i get that youd rather overpay a guy and then trade him if it gets untenable (ie disgruntled star, luxury tax not worth paying if the team is mid) then to let him walk for nothing, but it just feels like these teams cannot fuckin help it no matter how many cba guardrails they slip into to protect themselves from themselves.
― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 06:09 (ten months ago) link
problem for memphis: ja is not that guy

yeah the obvious deal is with brooklyn
― Clay, Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:12 (ten months ago) link
i think the main question is whether dame wants to go to a place where he could plausibly win a title in the next few years (miami) or a place where he would be the center of the franchise w/ the ball in his hands and a pretty good team around him but not likely any better chance of winning a title than he had in his prime portland years (nets) and i guess the sixers are gonna be in there too
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:18 (ten months ago) link
well i guess that answers that lol
The Portland Trail Blazers have been informed that Damian Lillard wants a trade specifically to the Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat, multiple sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. https://t.co/CE2lJVcuod— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 1, 2023
but with no no-trade clause why would they have to do that
― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:19 (ten months ago) link

― Clay, Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:22 (ten months ago) link
Until now dame has always said "a contender". naming a specific team only undercuts any small leverage the blazers had in cutting a deal. that's not asking for loyalty, that's asking the blazers to lay over and play dead.
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:24 (ten months ago) link
he would absolutely make miami a lot better offensively, but if we poke the suns for being top-heavy, the heat would have probably the same problem?
― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:27 (ten months ago) link
if the blazers trade dame for the two firsts and tyler herro, lol

― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, July 1, 2023 12:06 PM (twenty-three minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink
also, lol
teams with the best deals for dame
picks deal: nets
picks and guys deal: celtics
― lag∞n, Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:31 (ten months ago) link
its a shame, if you're portland you should probably ask for herro bc hes the best player miami is willing to part with, but he might be too good if u r just trying to tank. also miami can only trade like their 2027 and 2029 picks so you'd need pick swaps which would probably not matter anyway, its not like the heat will ever be bad. hindsight is 20/20 but the trade market for him wouldve been huge in the summer of gobert.
― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:34 (ten months ago) link
on the plus side for blazers fans, at least they dont have to pay him $63M when he's 36
