ok PG was not as old as i thought

ciderpress, Friday, 30 June 2023 17:21 (ten months ago) link

the same ppl have also been arguing over & over that morey won the harden trade, he held out for his star and got it, the sixers had the most deadly PPP pick & roll duo in the regular season yada yada. sixers went 13-10 in the playoffs w/ harden, never advanced past the second round, were able to dump ben simmons contract but gave up 2 first round picks in the process & are now hamstrung asset wise, also gave up seth curry and then shot 16-71 from three in the final 2 games of the boston series... i'm not gonna bang the gavel on this trade being a disaster until we see how this harden stuff resolves but as of now it's looking quite disaster-ish

J0rdan S., Friday, 30 June 2023 17:26 (ten months ago) link

also trading for a guy whos on his second trade request in a year might give you pause

lag∞n, Friday, 30 June 2023 17:27 (ten months ago) link

and as a staunch "morey should dump simmons for the halliburton appetizer combo" poster and a staunch "if you give up two first round picks for james harden in your quest to win a title you didn't actually win a trade" poster i'm not revising history here

J0rdan S., Friday, 30 June 2023 17:28 (ten months ago) link

morey knew first hand about all the crazy shit harden did in houston and did not care, he was his biggest enabler lol, another strike against the boy genius

lag∞n, Friday, 30 June 2023 17:28 (ten months ago) link

morey is prob by any measure one of the best GMs of his generation except for the part where the success of all his teams was put in the hands of one of the worst playoff performers of all time, it's very tragic in a greek way

J0rdan S., Friday, 30 June 2023 17:33 (ten months ago) link

he made some nice moves for sure but imo he lacked the good fundamentals and also doesnt seem to understand the human skills part, its weird that he was never a wall street guy cause its all extremely wall streety

lag∞n, Friday, 30 June 2023 17:36 (ten months ago) link

wonder when the wreckage of the sixers will get bad enough for him to quit

lag∞n, Friday, 30 June 2023 17:39 (ten months ago) link

he completely skated on the mess houston became bcuz harden & to an extent fertita are such obvious lightning rods for criticism

J0rdan S., Friday, 30 June 2023 17:40 (ten months ago) link

the westbrook trade was such a perfect fuck it im out of here anyway move

lag∞n, Friday, 30 June 2023 17:41 (ten months ago) link

jaylen has managed to stay just on the other side of the saying dumb shit on podcasts line and for that he has my thanks lol

lag∞n, Friday, 30 June 2023 18:19 (ten months ago) link

there's some sorta like half life sequence that goes marcus smart -> dillon brooks -> pat beverly so i guess this makes sense

J0rdan S., Friday, 30 June 2023 18:21 (ten months ago) link

and of course the possibility that this becomes ben simmons 2.0 is the absolute funniest outcome of the harden acquisition

― J0rdan S., Friday, June 30, 2023 1:49 AM (eleven hours ago) bookmarkflaglink

hey give Harden some credit he at least always seems to want to be out there. maybe he'll have those Simmons-ish games where he scores 7 points and fouls out but it'll be on 40 shot attempts not 4

frogbs, Friday, 30 June 2023 18:28 (ten months ago) link

he at least always seems to want to be out there

i think we might have different interpretations of james harden's emotional state in games 6 and 7 of the celtics series

J0rdan S., Friday, 30 June 2023 18:35 (ten months ago) link

well another thing with Harden is I think he's hurt a lot and his body is probably in rough shape given the way he's foul baited for the last 10 years. he doesn't seem to care a whole lot about winning titles but I think he at least likes to play basketball

frogbs, Friday, 30 June 2023 18:42 (ten months ago) link

yeah he doesn't sit out much but he can shut it down on court with the best of them, like how many 2/11 elimination games do we need to see to know this?

call all destroyer, Friday, 30 June 2023 18:56 (ten months ago) link

he's a very strange dude

call all destroyer, Friday, 30 June 2023 18:56 (ten months ago) link

he had an amazing run of basically playing every game in houston, bodys breaking down now tho

lag∞n, Friday, 30 June 2023 18:57 (ten months ago) link

b/w morey fumbling haliburton, clippers trading sga to get paul george, and the suns trading mikal bridges, i dont know how long it will take for teams to realize that maybe they can build a contender with young stars if they're patient. owners just want the instant gratification of a new toy.

― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Friday, June 30, 2023 1:07 PM (one hour ago)

I mean it’s easier said than done, right? for every team that’s regretted trading away a guy who turns out to be a star, there’s an orlando or indiana, who are doing it the “right way” but are waiting, maybe indefinitely, for one or more of their young guys to actually turn into the sort of franchise cornerstone that is a difference-maker in may or june. take denver for example, a mostly homegrown team who wouldn’t be anywhere near where they are if their mid-2nd round pick didn’t randomly turn into one of the GOATS. it’s a surer thing to trade for the established guy

k3vin k., Friday, 30 June 2023 19:04 (ten months ago) link

even tho the PG trade was fully nuts from the jump to me it is somewhat defensible bcuz it didn't decimate their present team, they just bet on two guys who can never stay healthy. which was dumb and this outcome was always predictable but you could at least make the case that you were maximizing a 3-5 year window in exchange for the obvious crippling future downside risk

the KD to suns trade was and is completely indefensible bcuz not only did they take on all the future downside risk they also dropped a nuclear bomb on their present roster. will prob go down as one of the worst trades in NBA history when it's all said and done

J0rdan S., Friday, 30 June 2023 19:10 (ten months ago) link

he had an amazing run of basically playing every game in houston, bodys breaking down now tho

― lag∞n, Friday, June 30, 2023 2:57 PM (thirteen minutes ago)

see i think he's actually aging fairly well, he's clearly lost some athleticism and has a bit of a roly poly body but we're talking about a 33 year old. and he's pretty appropriately shifted his game to adjust for that, playing more of a true PG role, he shot more mid rangers this year. by the standards of the playoff grind he seemed pretty fully healthy to me in the celtics series, it didn't ever seem like had bad conditioning or anything. it's just the whole brain shutting down like an overheated computer thing that is the problem

J0rdan S., Friday, 30 June 2023 19:11 (ten months ago) link

just meant he misses games now when he didnt used to

lag∞n, Friday, 30 June 2023 19:14 (ten months ago) link

when I worked Burger King there were two kinds of co-workers, those who would call in "sick" (hungover) on Saturday morning, and those who come in but half-ass everything. ultimately I appreciated those in the latter category, it's the not showing up at all that bothered me

frogbs, Friday, 30 June 2023 19:20 (ten months ago) link

it was so satisfying when the dubs beat the harden rockets teams in the wcf 2015 & 2018

that's not my post, Friday, 30 June 2023 19:25 (ten months ago) link

All signs have pointed to a new Draymond Green deal in Golden State since my enclosed story Monday and league sources now project Green to land a contract in the four-year, $100 million range from the Warriors once free agency commences.

good deal imo. interested to see if the 4th year is a team or player option

nobody respects the chair (Spottie), Friday, 30 June 2023 21:47 (ten months ago) link

Yeah, definitely a great deal considering some of the numbers that have been flying around.
Also seeing a lot of chatter around Saric to GSW, which would be a great pickup on a vet min

Warriors have already checked their most important free agent box. Draymond Green is back, per @ShamsCharania. Warriors get: Lowered annual salary. Green gets: Player option in Year 4. https://t.co/aJCcUic4SB
