The pitching has been really poor, especially when they have a big lead. When the pitching has been good they seem to be unable to get any hits lately.

i just have no idea what cohen's press conference will accomplish

is he gonna blame himself/his front office for giving all this guaranteed money to apparently shitty players? is he gonna blame the players for sucking? is he going to say that he believes in this group of players but they're just struggling at the moment?

the players already know they're underachieving; i don't see how -- even with the last option -- cohen talking publicly about it will help matters

Yeah it’s less juicy than the Padres collapse. Tommy Pham always seems like a dick even when they’re giving him the nicest personal interpretation. Guys are playing pool together? Who cares!

I remember seeing his name trending on Twitter several times when he was in a lineup and people were absolutely raging /blaming Showalter & the thinking was that continuing to play him was Buck’s decision - I’m kind of surprised that it was FO but again I’m not that familiar with the Mets inner workings at all so that was probably obvious to you.

Showalter was told he had to play Vogelbach, the source said.

Part of the manager’s opposition to Vogelbach was philosophical: Showalter viewed the DH spot as one that should be used on a rotation, allowing position players a partial rest while remaining in the lineup.

But Showalter — who was fired last weekend, allowing new president of baseball operations David Stearns the opportunity to pick his own manager following the Mets’ 75-win season — also had an issue with Vogelbach’s limited skill set, according to a source.

i'm surprised more managers don't do it this way. i mean sometimes it's done this way in a pinch but as a philosophy of what the DH should be for i like it

I think you can say that the Diamondbacks are succeeding in spite of Tommy Pham. Paul Sewald is a bigger influence on their success.

Senga posted a picture on his Instagram story of him and his agent having lunch with Lars Nootbaar.

Nothing in his Mets tenure would make you believe that Sewald could be an effective reliever. He infamously went 118 major-league appearances without getting his first win. Pretty incredible turnaround over the past few years.

Yeah I read about his awful Mets career at some point last year! Mariners pitching lab can fix anyone (except Chris Flexen and Brennan Bernardinho).

I feel like that’s an important role to fill

Stearns is totally running the show, gm would be second banana so not that essential as it would be in orgs where gm has a lot of power. this is why ng left miami, her gm role was demoted to secondary status.
