Lol! I do think people can change, and I don’t begrudge Tim Robinson for where he’s come from. I’ve come from a similar place (fortunately it was many years ago). I do think he’s latched onto a vibe that is real but is also very uncomfortable for those who have experienced it.

Just popping in to say this Josefa take is fucking bizarre.

I have danced with the cocaine and have hung out with cocaine people, not once did I think this show was a result or response to cocaine.

ya I mean that business seminar sketch ends with Tim pointing at the other guy saying something like "ha ha you're in trouble and I'm not"

Well there's different facets to the show that come out in different sketches, but I find his character - or his stand-in characters, e.g. the "Frankentstein's Girlfriend" character - more menacing than childlike. To me there's real anxiety involved with imagining how I would deal with these characters in real life. It's still LOL funny, don't get me wrong.

I think it's fair to assume that trace amounts of cocaine could be found on the persons of the sloppy steaks guys. I mean, they were being real pieces of shit after all.

the only obvious substance… overuse… bit in a tim robinson production I can think of is the ridiculous alcoholism in Detroiters

Tim in the "I thought a volcano erupted" sketch is literally just me circa age 11 when I realized I could get easy laughs by responding to stuff with "Did you just say (outrageous thing that they obviously didn't just say but maybe sounds a little bit similar)?" and then did it so much my mom made me promise to stop

This would have been plenty funny but was made even better by the order screen perfectly keeping up with every item he said.

Was listening to NPR in the car this morning and they had an intelligence expert on (didn't catch his name) to reflect on the impact of Robert Hanssen, spy who just passed away. This guy was narrating what the mindset was in the CIA/FBI as various covert ops were inexplicably foiled and without missing a beat dropped a "We're all looking for the guy who did this"

one thing I like is that they just cut sketches off instead of trying to resolve these absurd scenarios in the classic SNL style

"Kim Kardashian's head fell off" feels like the end of an improv game where everyone breaks down into laughter because the improviser got into a hole.

that's my biggest problem with SNL as exemplified by the "Roundball Rock" sketch which was one of the few Tim Robinson actually managed to get on the show. first few minutes of that are hilarious, then they kinda just beat the joke into the ground and have the characters just destroy the set for whatever reason

idk i still think it's funny to think of john tesh busting up a record company (uh, tv network) office like ice cube or someone

SNL have a lot of time to kill, so the sketches always go on too long. Meanwhile every year Tim gives us a streamlined equivalent that turns out be the length of uh 1 SNL episode

Agree that SNL should air once a year.

the thing of having the sketches just stop like on ITYSL probably isn't possible on a show filmed in front of a live audience like SNL.

Key and Peele is the only sketch show I can think of that was consistently good at ending sketches (as opposed to being good at smoothing over the fact that the sketches don't have endings)

K&P was really good at taking things to their logical conclusion and then finding a way to go even beyond that

I rarely find things really funny, but this show was one of the few that literally made me crack up

Have never done actual crack in my entire life, though, for whatever that's worth

Still need to finish watching the new season. Episode 1 wasn't that great for me

I thought the new season was a big drop-off. Maybe it's just more of the same and some of the novelty has worn off? It def just felt like the same skit over and over again. The details are still brilliant, the performances great, I mean still funny but didn't hit me the same.

just watched Episode 5, two all-time crazy sketches in that one, plus the one with Tim Meadows. always happy to see that guy pop up. idk I've found this season to be pretty consistently great - Season 2 was the one that was more hit-and-miss for me. dunno if it's been remarked in here yet but I love how so many of the actors just look like normal people, since no one really looks like an actor you don't know who's going to fly off the handle

I could do with more Tim-as-the-straight-guy sketches, and maybe fewer office-based ones (they do tend to be the funnier ones but I'm a little tired of office settings.)

Watching the reality show/zipline one a second time is a treat, cos you pick up on the zipline and big splashes being in the background of the intro sequence.
