Hi Kenan! Hi everyone...I keep starting to post and then just blinking at things and going back to just reading. I came back from my parents' yesterday after what was mostly a nice Christmas, though it wiped me out and now I feel like shit. It was great fun to spend time with my sister, we just get exhuberently silly together and laugh a lot and make fun of each other constantly. My dad's doing really well since his surgery though he has to rest a lot. He has a huge frankenstein incision down his neck. I suggested he grow a mullet. It would cover up the scar *and* be a great fashion statement for a very conservative 60something guy who works at a bank.

Hugs to Chris V and Mark C and Orbit and Luna and everybody who needs them.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 18:14 (twenty years ago) link

I get to go home in 40 minutes!

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 18:18 (twenty years ago) link

I don't know when I get to go home. Usually, like now. But I skipped lunch, because on Christmas Eve, I took my unpaid lunch and when I got back to my desk, the boss was like, "finish up what you're doing then go home" and if I had not taken my lunch break, I could split then.
So now I'm done all the work I could possibly do today, and must just look busy until they finally decide enough'z'enough or whatever.

looks like a shinier, less sullen Jack White.

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 19:51 (twenty years ago) link

thx for the hugs, julia.
i hope you feel better luna, and that your kid doesn't keep giving you the same cold like my friend's kid keeps giving me...

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 19:55 (twenty years ago) link

I call him 'Typhoid Mary' if that gives you any idea.

You feeling any better Orbit?

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 19:57 (twenty years ago) link

I hope you call him that to his face!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 20:00 (twenty years ago) link

well i finally got to sleep around 3:30am; this morning there was some, er, *movement* in the sinuses. i'm trying to take it easy today so i can go out tonight.
luna, how are you feeling?

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 20:04 (twenty years ago) link

I do call him that to his face - but he's 6, he doesn't know what it means.

I feel largely like ass - and not in a good way - cause I didn't get more than an hours' sleep last night, but am in bed currently and planning to take a wee nap soon.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 20:38 (twenty years ago) link

Huckleberry Mann, GO HOME.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 20:38 (twenty years ago) link

my boss just left.
he wished me a happy new year and then said "i know you'll get smashed, sunshine!"

but he didn't say to go home. I've only got half an hour left before my real quittin' time anyhoo. What a bummer!

But I think I'm gonna go home. Happy New Year Luna.
And the rest of youse.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 20:41 (twenty years ago) link

happy New Year ILE!

best wishes.

possible m (mandinina), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 21:13 (twenty years ago) link

Hi monkeys. We are in CHicago. Sarah is sick with a head cold. She will post in a second. We are mostly unpacked. We don't have much furniture though. I am too behind on ILX. Fortunately, I am unemployed. Bye for now. I am going to take a bath while Sarah posts.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 1 January 2004 01:22 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, I'd like to join the sick as a dog contingent.

The move was as smooth as possible. We got help loading and unloading. We had zero problems with the truck.

It somehow still hasn't hit me that we're here. It's overwhelming.

What can I tell you about Chicago that I didn't already know? Well, I think it's weird how you have to show your receipt before leaving Kmart, and that you can't bring your grocery cart out to your car to load it at the grocery store.

My mom got along just fine with Nick, though there were a couple of ick moments when she basically accused him of being lazy and impatient, though not in so many words.

Oh! I forgot to mention that a neighbor across the way yelled out his window at me the other day saying, "Could you try to keep your trash on your side?!" Then he slammed it down. It shook me up a little because it was my first contact with any neighbors, but then I met a girl from upstairs who seemed nice.

In other news, HI, EVERYBODY! HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE!!!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 1 January 2004 01:35 (twenty years ago) link

Hey Sarah, Nick, Luna, Horace and others. Happy New Year from London, England, which may well be the best fucking place on the planet. Happy rain and cold and drunken people and 90s dance music.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 1 January 2004 01:50 (twenty years ago) link

happy new year and smiles to sam, luna, dee, julia, sarah and everyone! Hooray new year! Has to be better than old year!

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 1 January 2004 11:17 (twenty years ago) link

Happy new year everyone - like Orbit, I have a lot more optimism about 2004 than last year, several real reasons to think it might be a good one for me.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 1 January 2004 15:59 (twenty years ago) link

Here's to that. Happy new year TITTWISers!

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 1 January 2004 16:10 (twenty years ago) link

Happy New Year to my favourite ILXors. You lot rock the most. Let's hope 2004 is the best year for us all. xxxxxx

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 2 January 2004 09:45 (twenty years ago) link

Happy New Year ILXors. Moose Jaw is burning!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 2 January 2004 14:31 (twenty years ago) link

Is that a good thing H?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 2 January 2004 14:33 (twenty years ago) link

no, it's sorta sad.

http://sask.cbc.ca

however, it feels like a monday, but it's actually a friday! that's a good thing.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:19 (twenty years ago) link

Happy Friday, Huck.

I can't believe I've been in Chicago since Monday morning! Crazy.

Anyway, I'm happy today because I'm feeling loads better, even though I had both ice cream and sorbet for dinner, and because I'm FAPing tomorrow night. So then maybe I'll know someone else in Chicago other than my - of course I love him - boyfriend.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Saturday, 3 January 2004 05:06 (twenty years ago) link

I woke up to snow! I love snow. Now you get to experience Chicago snow, Sarah and Nick! WooO!

I don't talk about my life in detail soemtimes because it seems like it would just be depressing. But once in a while I'll open up to someone and they'll be cool and understanding and sweet and that just rocks.

Things have really sucked the past few days, but now there are some little tiny hopeful things. Partially because snow makes me inordinately happy.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Sunday, 4 January 2004 18:24 (twenty years ago) link

We are enjoying the snow, Julia, especially since it's still in that pretty, fluffy stage right now.

It sure is weird living right next door to a church. Earlier we heard gospel music and real drums. Now it's quavery organ music and a choir. But also it's kind of neat walking down the block and seeing the big cross lit up right beside our door.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Sunday, 4 January 2004 19:46 (twenty years ago) link

Happy New Year, y'all!!

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 4 January 2004 20:00 (twenty years ago) link

Yay New Year's! It is a good thing still.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 4 January 2004 20:16 (twenty years ago) link

back to work tomorrow for me
up to my neck in cases
i can only check in here and there
but all of you are aces!

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 4 January 2004 21:44 (twenty years ago) link

ILX sabbatical HAD to end today, since I need to be amused. Hullo, everyone!

Things have really sucked the past few days, but now there are some little tiny hopeful things.

Hold on, Julia. Have things gotten any better?

This is almost exactly (ie, it ain't mine, and mine has different rims) my new car. Well, 2002, but it's new to me.

Yay car!

luna (luna.c), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:31 (twenty years ago) link

people with cars are awesome ( i don't drive, but I'm going to need to soon)

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:32 (twenty years ago) link

Well, if you were nearby, I'd drive you around - it's one of my favorite things to do ever.

(Clearly I should become a taxi driver)

luna (luna.c), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:33 (twenty years ago) link

If it talked too, Luna, then that would be the new definition of cool.

(double x-post)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:34 (twenty years ago) link

yay! car!

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:34 (twenty years ago) link

nearby is relative, and I'm now much nearer in relation to you having a hot set of wheels. I'm done work in 45 minutes.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:35 (twenty years ago) link

Okay, if I leave now, I can pick you up... hmm... sometime in the middle of the night.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:41 (twenty years ago) link

well, it's not like I have anything to hurry home for

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:43 (twenty years ago) link

Luna don't need no stinkin' speed limits.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:43 (twenty years ago) link

I rarely ever speed.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:51 (twenty years ago) link

Much.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:51 (twenty years ago) link

oh, we can change that right quick.

since roadtrips are being undertaken(undertook?), please head eastward after you pick up Mann. Canadian bands tell me that you can get back across the border easiest in Montana, then you're only two time zones away from michigan!

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:54 (twenty years ago) link

Okay - I can pick up one more person then - unless someone wants to ride in the trunk (which has a safety release, btw).

luna (luna.c), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:55 (twenty years ago) link

*whistles idly*

oops (Oops), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:57 (twenty years ago) link

boy, if you mean to come along, yer gettin' strapped the hood.

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:58 (twenty years ago) link

once again, what I thought was a romantic rendezvous turns out to be a carpool

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:59 (twenty years ago) link

"Strapped the hood"? How quaint.
