its funny i saw both celtics and philly fans accusing her of being biased last night, i think cause shes so complimentary when fans hear it for their own team theyre like yes makes sense of course but then with the other team its all why is she in love with them

doris seems more flowery this year than in past years

yeah sometimes there’s a paternalism about her but she’ll also call guys out in a real way too, it’s almost a yin/yang of the same emotion, tough love kinda thing. she was right to be genuinely incredulous last night @ embiid & harden kinda giving up on the game. also she went viral for calling out dillon brooks in round 1

when JVG is on a big playoff game & treating it seriously and not doing 80s stand up routines i still think he’s the best we have in terms of breaking down the game in real time, even like during a possession. but doris is up there for me in that regard

TNT is kinda slipping, their play by play guys are great but reggie and SVG are not amazing. stan is aight but he’s not as good as his brother

xp was funny a few games ago where jvg randomly went on a huge rant about load management, i think it was a lakers game and breen was saying something about how it would be good for bron to get more rest for the next game and jvg kept doubling down saying he thought the vets would be better in the next game the more minutes they played, to establish a rhythm or something like that

it’s impossible for me to separate my feelings about him from the starks/ewing/oakley knicks but i think even without that he’d still be my favorite color guy

cant believe these coaches who watched first hand as the spurs built a dynasty on being the first team to do load management and yet they still dont believe it

also after one of tatum’s made threes near the end he said “jayson tatum! not always there when you call but always on time” which actually felt like a correct interpretation of that lyric w/in the context of a star player missing every shot for 3.75 quarters but then draining three threes to ice the game

i had a pleasant run in w/ stan van yesterday. he hopped out of a car outside my office in midtown and i was like “what the…” but there’s a very famous restaurant right next door & it turned out he was looking for that (not an uncommon occurrence). i think he flew down from boston for the night to hang with his wife. he’s lost a lot of weight, he looked good

it was actually at least the third stan van encounter of my life. back in his heat days he didn’t live too far from my parents, his daughter and my brother were in middle school at the same time. he always looked kinda disheveled, it was a bit like running into khalid shield mohammed. he’s looking better these days

interpreting his comments in the most generous possible light, I get what he’s saying to a degree. so many of these guys are employed not because of their value as analysts but because the players are such willing participants in the drama circus, and jokic just doesn’t participate in any of that stuff off the court. it’s tough for the brand these guys are trying to market

saw someone earlier tweeting about how basketball is interesting and people who like it should cover it, now i know what that was about lol

I’ve said this before but as a casual at best NFL fan, the level of actual football analysis on mainstream broadcasts is just in another universe compared to the NBA

yes. I realised a few years ago that I would watch the games on TV and feel like I understood broadly what was happening and nothing the commentators said would disabuse me of that notion. then I would go on ilx and realise that I only understood about 30 pc of what I was watching.

there is an intellectual component to every football play that doesn’t really exist in other sports. you basically have to understand how/why every single play is working on a base level to even be given the opportunity to step onto an NFL field. and then there’s the fact that QBs are the most famous players & it’s also the most intellectually demanding position so you get lots of ex QB analysts whose brains are specifically trained to break down plays before they even happen. but even the guys at other positions have to understand the game on a crazy level. like find an interview of any random cornerback explaining how his responsibilities on a play completely shift from a, b, c, d options to e, f, g, h options in a heartbeat bcuz a WR simply motioned across the field. NFL football is extraordinarily complicated mentally it’s really nuts

also keep in mind there’s essentially like 30 seconds of dead time after every football play so granular analysis is built into the broadcasts in a way that can’t exist w/ basketball

yeah the rhythm of watching football is funny watch a play rewatch it from different angles at different speeds try to understand what happened watch the next play

this is me too lol. my gf is newly into the nuggets and was excited to watch the draft with me last night but tapped about an hour before they picked

same here basically. my spouse likes to critique what the players moms wear. i listen to all the pods during chores and stuff. it is a lonely path we're on.

what is everyone's pod hierarchy at this point? i think this is where i am for the stuff in my feed:

dunc'd on/duncan and hollinger - best detail, cold-blooded analysis
windhorst/bontemps/mcmahon - best insidery content, best sniping at each other
russillo nba pods - decent layman analysis, good interview
lowe - good layman analysis, bad interviewer
simmons - occasionally good insider stuff but wildly out of touch these days
