that writer i mentioned earlier said there was like a 2-hour cut of the logan’s death / connor’s wedding episode, i guess there’s probably long cuts of everything that they then have to chop down. i wonder if those will ever see the light of day

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 4 May 2023 16:24 (one year ago) link

Oh that would be great. Would watch

RIP dvd box sets

Yeah, apparently most episodes are written long and get cut in the editing room. J. Smith-Cameron said in an interview there was a whole deleted subplot of the Norway episode that involved a Hunger Games-style athletic/survival competition between the Waystar and GoJo executives, as well as a longer sauna scene.

Now this is truly a loss

That they *shot*, or just that they wrote?

The fake brand names on this show are really weird in a way I can't put my finger on.
Gojo!
Kalispitron!
Doderick!

its def a slightly alternate reality

Bummer--I see there is at least one season on Blu-Ray, but has essentially no extras. I realize physical media is dying/dead (until the revival X years down the road) but this show seems tailor-made for a lavish prestige set.

She was proud of a scene in which they went foraging for mushrooms and she surreptitiously switched baskets with one of the Swedes.

After the presentation goes well for Kendall, we see Karl clapping for him and calling him “special.” Are there any limits to his self-preservation?
No, no, no. I don’t care. That’s what I wanted him to do, and I’m perfectly fine with that: Good for you, that’s what I was talking about! I’m not going to remind you of our conversation, and I’m not going to say, “If you would have done anything else, I would have fucking killed you.” What I said was “You have your life or your death ahead of you. You make the choice.” He chose, and he did fine. We’re on track. I had to give him a spanking, and let’s just move on.

Pretty interesting

Every time Karl comes on screen I can’t help but think that SLEDGE HAMMER has crossed over into the show somehow

calstars, Friday, 5 May 2023 13:59 (one year ago) link

That's exactly the way I interpreted Karl's little dust-up with Kendall and his reaction to the speech as well fwiw. This isn't some deep vendetta it's business, and as far as Karl's concerned it worked - Kendall stayed away from the numbers

Was going to post my prediction last week and now I feel even more confidant. And I should be allowed this dumb prediction because I was the first person to predict how Mad Men would end.

I think Kendal comes out on top. I think it’s easy to say oh he’s manic and addictive and will crash but…really terrible people in the real world often do actually obtain power right? The final talk w frank made it clear what he’ll do to get there. I don’t want it to end like he was some kind of antihero and his being in charge is a happy resolution, but I think he wins at a great cost. It’ll be like michael at the end of the godfather, shutting the siblings out.

Feel free to give me shot for even bothering ti predict, and more shit when I’m wrong, but I’m just saying it here now so I can take the credit if I’m right.

Anyway that Tim shiv argument. Holy shit.

brutal ep extremely bad air circulating

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 03:31 (eleven months ago) link

Totally missed it last week but during the recap they show Kendall writing the number 1 in the sand. Certainly he’s number 1 this week. And it’s a plausible theory he ends up there. Or will the waves wash it all away? Reverse Viking is pretty good plan - if he pulls that off, Ken will have earned his spurs.

that's not my post, Monday, 8 May 2023 04:23 (eleven months ago) link

I still think it’s inevitable from the beginning that Greg somehow goes from the bottom to the top.

I do wish that Mattson hadn’t made errors for the first time tonight after being an unbeatable adversary.

underwater as a compliment (Eazy), Monday, 8 May 2023 05:18 (eleven months ago) link

I feel like there were some misinterpretations itt about last week's ep, kendall def came out a big winner, everyone doubted him & even his brother gave up on him and then he executed, the vision helped make something that didnt work on paper work in reality, him being a winner for a time is in fact a part of watching the show, it wouldn't have happened without him and sets the stage for the growing conflict (I think this week's ep further backs this up)

kurt schwitterz, Monday, 8 May 2023 07:48 (eleven months ago) link

I agree it feels like it's Kendall's race to lose at this point.

Feel like I've said this before but even thought Mattson is better at Business than the kids, Mattson sucks.

Ken will shut his siblings out, but they know he killed a guy

Enumerated funks of Walsh, Joe. (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 8 May 2023 13:24 (eleven months ago) link

I was wondering -- who at this point knows about the guy Kendall killed? Is that what Karl was talking about when he threatened to "squeal" last episode?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 8 May 2023 13:33 (eleven months ago) link

I just feel like the kids don't have what it takes to pull that kind of move. I think they're both so broken. I can see Shiv walking away. She'll have her kid and try to save her soul by going back to Gill? Roman is totally lost. Maybe Ken gives him a job. Or Greg fires him.

pretty sure he just meant the fake projections for the thing kendall was pitching

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 13:57 (eleven months ago) link

I absolutely think Roman’s breakdown has been foreshadowed all season and it’ll happen in the eulogy

Was totally surprised by this episode, less so by Shiv/Tom and more by “Matsson’s assets are bad” revelations. The intrigues are piling up! I trust they’ll stick the landing tho. Have no theories, I’m just happily on the edge of my seat

haven’t seen the latest ep yet just wanted to say that my read of karl’s power play on kendall last ep was that he successfully prevented kendall from saying the big numbers, but that didn’t stop the logan roy edit/deepfake of doubling earnings. but karl’s like, this old guy who probably doesn’t even know what a deepfake is, when he sees that clip he’s probably thinking oh, maybe logan really did approve of these revised projections, would make sense as he alludes to all the times logan bent him over backwards when talking with kendall.

gotta say, all the corporate hijinx about boards and tanking the deal kind of stretch credulity but i’ll let it slide

feel like roman’s humiliation fetish is spotlit too much tho, they need to dial that back

, Monday, 8 May 2023 16:19 (eleven months ago) link

Nate, or as my wife called hime, you mean BJ Novak? And I had to say BJ Novak wasn't on this show, it was a different guy, who was like a young Mark Ruffalo version of BJ Novak.

the Shiv/Tom argument was an all-time great scene, what a show. The writing but especially that acting.

I'm not comfortable making predictions about this show, because they so rarely come to pass. I'd like to think that they're not obviously telegraphing what's going to happen in the last three episodes.
