da votes

Jayson Tatum finished 4th in MVP voting as expected, receiving 89 of the 100 fourth place votes. That’s his highest finish of his career after coming in 6th last year. pic.twitter.com/cHYfn0qKJs

Nice job, big fella.

Joel Embiid is the first Basketball Without Borders (BWB) alumni to win the Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Award. Embiid participated in BWB Africa 2011 in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was coached by NBA players and personnel, including Dikembe Mutombo and Alonzo Mourning. pic.twitter.com/A6nhGhddFG

One thing that gets lost with Embiid because of how good he’s been and his outsized personality is how he started playing so late compared to a lot of players. It is pretty admirable that he has really continued to work on his game even this offseason he worked on his passing and cutting down turnovers.

yeah its crazy he actually has a great feel for the game which tends to be harder the later you pick it up

lag∞n, Wednesday, 3 May 2023 17:09 (eleven months ago) link

yeah he’s the exception to most of those late blooming big dudes it’s all the more impressive

k3vin k., Wednesday, 3 May 2023 18:11 (eleven months ago) link

not to mention he missed his first two seasons

k3vin k., Wednesday, 3 May 2023 18:12 (eleven months ago) link

given annually to the player who best exemplifies the themes of the 2022 Adam Sandler film Hustle

symsymsym, Thursday, 4 May 2023 16:19 (eleven months ago) link

it's nice that they invented an award to give to marcus so we can give the defensive player of the year award to the actual defensive players of the year

J0rdan S., Thursday, 4 May 2023 16:21 (eleven months ago) link

marcus won the dopy fair and square (years of narative building by celtics twitter)

lag∞n, Thursday, 4 May 2023 16:23 (eleven months ago) link

honestly tho they should just have big man and perimeter dpoy awards so everyone gets a shot

lag∞n, Thursday, 4 May 2023 16:25 (eleven months ago) link

that's a cool idea. especially w/ them making all defense positionless there will prob be 1 guard per year who makes first team

J0rdan S., Thursday, 4 May 2023 17:04 (eleven months ago) link

Cool idea. They should do that.

Allen (etaeoe), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:49 (eleven months ago) link

The All-Rookie team seems solid and uncontroversial:
Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero, Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler, Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin, Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray, and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams.

The All-Rookie second team features Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren, Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason, Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey, Houston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr., and San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan.

aphoristical, Monday, 8 May 2023 22:24 (eleven months ago) link

jabari smith was awful prob shouldnt have a second team

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 22:56 (eleven months ago) link

zeitgeist was he got on track in the second half of the season but i sure did not watch enough rockets to have an opinion

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Monday, 8 May 2023 23:25 (eleven months ago) link

i mean yeah in the sense that he went from the worst shooter in the league to just regular bad

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 23:29 (eleven months ago) link

every team needs at least one Jalen

symsymsym, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 01:12 (eleven months ago) link

The Thunder's first all-rookie team selection since Russell Westbrook.

aphoristical, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 02:01 (eleven months ago) link

Made an honest mistake with my MVP votes. My apologies to the Denver Nuggets and Nikola Jokic. He’s not only a legitimate MVP candidate who deserved my vote, but he is truly one of the all time greats!
Again my apologies

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 May 2023 23:21 (eleven months ago) link

lol ok fine

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2023 23:21 (eleven months ago) link

this is an excellent reason to fire mark jackson

Clay, Thursday, 11 May 2023 23:22 (eleven months ago) link

it happens, so easy to forget the winner of the last two MVPs is eligible

symsymsym, Thursday, 11 May 2023 23:46 (eleven months ago) link

wtf does "an honest mistake" even mean in this context

symsymsym, Thursday, 11 May 2023 23:46 (eleven months ago) link

that response is hilarious

Spottie, Friday, 12 May 2023 00:02 (eleven months ago) link

so if it was his all-nba ballot, was it just ranked in positional order? lol

symsymsym, Friday, 12 May 2023 01:51 (eleven months ago) link

looks like it
