I would be really worried if I thought conservative america had any chance of returning to power in the next, like, 100 years

deej, Thursday, 14 February 2008 23:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I guess in the context of civil rights that one doesnt make much sense

Yeah, but the way he got to the Senate still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. LOL Benjamin Smith.

Nostradamus predicted this, you know! Roof! And a ruined man! (the rest is unimportant poetry)

The ancient work will be accomplished,
And from the roof evil ruin will fall on the great man:
They will accuse an innocent, being dead, of the deed:
The guilty one is hidden in the misty copse.
(Century 6, Quatrain 37)

StanM, Thursday, 14 February 2008 23:25 (sixteen years ago) link

think the coup in Iraq might have anything to do with this?

El Tomboto, Thursday, 14 February 2008 23:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I just got that email too, stan. Also included this one:

"The great man will be struck down in the day by a thunderbolt.
An evil deed, foretold by the bearer of a petition.
According to the prediction, another falls at night time."

Who's the other guy here?

Just in case anyone forgets: the number one songs on the US and UK charts today:

US: I’m Leaving It Up To You - Dale & Grace
UK: You'll Never Walk Alone - Gerry & The Pacemakers

If the rumors I hear about Kennedy are anywhere close to true, there is going to wind up being some kind of strip club involved in all this

nabisco, Thursday, 14 February 2008 23:38 (sixteen years ago) link

"happy birthday mister president"

;_;

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 14 February 2008 23:46 (sixteen years ago) link

I honestly find it hard to believe that such a beloved holder of the highest office in the country would possibly mortgage his career and his party's future on some kind of closed door sex scandal.

Clay, Thursday, 14 February 2008 23:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Well I did get some good news today... I just got hired by General Dynamics to work on the TFX project. Maybe something good will finally come out of that information science degree after all.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 14 February 2008 23:51 (sixteen years ago) link

We have this American high school kid, Oliver, staying at our place as an exchange student. He's totally hysterical about this whole assassination thing, you should all the weird-ass loony theories he's coming up with. He says that when he gets back to the States he's gonna "convince them all of the truth!". I think he's lucky if he manages to convince the neighbour's dog.

Tuomas, Thursday, 14 February 2008 23:59 (sixteen years ago) link

The print setter at work just told everyone some American president got shot, and something about aboriginal kids no longer being kidnapped by the government. Most of the people here don't know what America or aborigines is. If only we had a worldwide electronic information resource.

StanM, Friday, 15 February 2008 01:12 (sixteen years ago) link

why so many?

Dallas has a suspect, Lee Harvey Oswald. Apparently, he is in fact a Communist.

Since when did the media start adding middle names to these guys? They never did that with Charlie Starkweather. Probably just a trend.

John Wilkes Booth!

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 15 February 2008 02:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Okay him. But at least they gave it a rest for Charles Guiteau and Leon Czolgosz.

But really. I can't even believe that we're talking about the president of the United States dying today.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 15 February 2008 03:12 (sixteen years ago) link

xxp What a day. CS Lewis died today, too.

Flags at half-mast (half-staff?) here in Little Rock. Can't stop watching the news on TV. Probably going to be like this through the weekend.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 15 February 2008 03:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Imagine if channels always ran news nonstop like this. That'd be so cool.

Autumn Almanac, Friday, 15 February 2008 03:55 (sixteen years ago) link

i can't help but feel this is some kind of cosmic justice for the stolen election of 1960. chickens be comin' home to roost, is it not so?

gershy, Friday, 15 February 2008 04:26 (sixteen years ago) link

There's a good side to this though, because one day you'll have a mad republican president who invades all sorts of countries and can't manage the economy and is shit, and he'll be assassinated too. Clouds and silver linings and all that.

Autumn Almanac, Friday, 15 February 2008 04:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey guys. Just got back from Frankfurt. I saw the most amazing group of gay English boys play that rock and roll. I told them they would be a smash in America. (Of course, I was being selfish because I want to see them closer to home, lol.)

oops, wrong thread
