― INDEPENDENTS DAY BY STEVEN SPILBERG (President Keyes), Friday, 7 April 2023 19:17 (one year ago) link
I really am honestly wondering what might come of all this, given Ali's exposure on J6 stuff -- he's already testified to the grand jury, and rumor was that he made claims that are not belied by evidence -- and MTG's own murky role. Anybody ends up feels betrayed one way or another may decide to do something interesting about it.

Bucee's is a meme in Texas but I absolutely DNGI - it's a gas station, an XXXXL QuikTrip.

and then not pay her invoices

And if he doesn't he'll just have more grist for his endless "dying NYT gets everything wrong" rants. xp

Was just in New York where I met up with an old friend who it turns out currently has a job in the AG office. He's working on a separate Trump thing (related to the tax returns) and told me absolutely everybody was blindsided (but not in a bad way) by the apparently totally secret indictment, which in turn has inspired them to further drill down on their own stuff. Makes me wonder how many other investigations are out there but totally locked down, away from public view or knowledge.

I mean, give the federal grand juries in particular some credit, both the J6 and documents juries are apparently pretty well locked down. And only the Georgia foreperson said anything, and that was after they were all done.

going back several days...
I‘ve settled on the opinion that that election was close but not nearly as close as cable news wanted us to think it was
― castanuts (DJP), Wednesday, April 5, 2023
The electoral college outcome didn't reflect it but it was pretty damn close, closer even than the 2016 election. Out of the 100s of millions of votes cast (10 million more for Trump than even in 2016!) it was decided by a few thousand votes in Wisconsin, Georgia and Arizona
― Dan S, Saturday, 8 April 2023 01:04 (one year ago) link
I think you have it backward. 2016 was closer than 2020.
― This machine bores fascism (PBKR), Saturday, 8 April 2023 01:25 (one year ago) link
2020 was closer in the sense that Trump would have only needed to flip around 40,000 votes in 3 states to win. Hilary would have needed to flip around 70,000 votes in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.
― symsymsym, Saturday, 8 April 2023 01:48 (one year ago) link
yes, it was closer. regardless of the fact that Biden got millions more votes than Trump, those few thousand votes in three swing states were what mattered
― Dan S, Saturday, 8 April 2023 02:07 (one year ago) link
it's a really great system
― symsymsym, Saturday, 8 April 2023 02:12 (one year ago) link
its weird how for years theres been a realistic movement to do away with the electoral college thats already part way to making it happen and you never hear a national dem mention it despite losing the presidency twice recently when winning the national vote, almost like they dont care about winning

sorry to derail the donald trump sucks thread, but i just want 2 add that bucee's is one of the worst-designed places ive ever been to, yes there are dozens of toilets but there are still lines out the door because every yutz who lives along I35 wants to take in the experience of mass pissing apparently, the food is overrated garbage, there is virtually no traffic regulation regime, just every car for itself. its like the founders of this business said "what if the small town gas station was also the source of one of the most intense feelings of anxiety, drivers these days are too calm"

There are no chain convenience stores near me — at least, none that I've seen. There's a gas station with a convenience store attached about a block away — the only store within walking distance — which my wife and I have begun referring to as "the bodega."

Buc-ee's is much newer than that. I've had fairly positive experiences there, spacious clean bathrooms and no lines, but it's been several years since I've been to one, so I'm sure it's gone downhill. Might also depend on the specific location. I also know for a fact that the unusual candy selection, which was a big draw for me, has been greatly reduced in recent years.

I only know about bucees because of a tweet the other week from someone in the UK aghast that the salary for a manager at a car wash was 3x the average professional salary for someone in the UK (it was like 105k/yr) and lots of people had to tell him this wasn't just some little gas station carwash, and also yes UK salaries fucking suck
