pronunciation guide should've been a big clue, if I'd realised what it was. Instead after a brief detour into 'english language' I went united > states army.

Fun one today, though maybe a little tricky for Americans, since the spelling I'm used to shows up far less than the British variant. Also, the accompanying image is impressive as hell.

quite alarmingly, I appear not to be familiar with the English name/word for this extremely common
thing. just filling the cavities here, so to speak - I’m currently at 246/400. grinding on…

Same, I've uncovered this person's claim to fame but there's no way I'm getting their actual name.

same here, got to where I needed to be within 15 guesses (got the N-K whiff right away), but their name? so far, no. there was a time it would have been very much on my radar, so I'm going to be kicking myself when I see the answer. as it is, I'm entertaining myself by filling in the blanks - at 400 right now, once again

I solved Redactle Unlimited #372 in 407 guesses with an accuracy of 72.73% and a time of 02:04:36.

not for the first time, the answer came to me in the morning, when I wasn’t even thinking about it. just their last name tho, I did have to look up the first name

well done, i wondered if i would recognise it when i looked it up but nope.

from scanning the article it was clear that it was a provincial capital city in Mainland China. was able to identify the province in question, and then had to use some hints - got the second syllable through its character, the first one by using another well-placed hint

I'm having a long run of knowing what it is but not what it's called. I did recognise it when I cheated but I'd never have got it.
