But also Brian’s sister rules, that scene when he’s like “mom it’s detention we’re not supposed to study” & mom says “well you better find a way to study MISTER” and the sister’s gloating “YEAAAAH” with every perfect ounce of annoying sister not in trouble energy

I didn't know until very recently that "Brian"'s mom is actually Anthony Michael Hall's irl mom.

Friend also did the underpants scene in the bathroom in Sixteen Candles but both those movies are unbearable corn.
If you're from a preppy Chicago high school, people are like, "was that your school" and it gets tiresome.
Hughes other movies were better.

I've always hated the makeover too, but as of my most recent viewing, I've reconciled myself to it. Claire pairing off with Bender is harder to forgive, for reasons many (including Ringwald herself) have stated.

Love when Sheedy decides her drawing need snowflakes so he shakes dandruff on it.

I think it's time we revisit the Donger from Sixteen Candles as being superior to everyone from the Breakfast Club.
He starts out an earnest immigrant, cruelly bamboozled into performing slave labor for his host family and in short order, finagles an interracial romance (astounding for Hughes movies which usually depict Chicago as being curiously devoid of anyone who isn't white, and given the other romances depicted, including Jake/Samantha, is probably the healthiest and least problematic of the entire bunch, and frankly Donger + Jock Girl have way better chemistry onscreen), explodes the model minority myth by diving headfirst into drunken debauchery, and exacts revenge by totaling his landed gentry captors' automobeeeel.
What is Brian's arc? He starts off a suicidal nobody whom everyone takes advantage of, and ends up doing everyone's homework assignment for them.
Donger's triumphant chaos beats the self-serious defeatism of Breakfast Club every time. Also, Altered Images is better than Simple Minds.
In a weird parallel, you can see the same anarchic spirit in Rick Moranis, who was reportedly axed from the role of the janitor because he insisted on doing it in a wacky Russian accent. https://www.cinemablend.com/new/Why-Rick-Moranis-Was-Fired-From-Breakfast-Club-70266.html
