ears, nose, eyes and facial hair are very similar. the spaciness in the eyes especially made me think it's wayne. and they're at the local drinking place that laurel talked about. but the hair loss and the eyebrows (seem fuller and better groomed in the first picture) make me doubt it. could be wayne's older brother?

woops this is the photo I meant to post where Wayne is looking all shy and vulnerable:

there's something of Peppers about him in this picture, no?

There's a Katie Loftus who graduated from Upper Darby in '99.

what IS wayne doing with two beers in this? http://diehliniraq.com/v-web/gallery/Diehls-Party/andy_loftus

Oh man - I saw this maneuver executed so many times an boston area high school parties circa 1992ish. It's has both pragmatic and symbolic value. Generally attempted at large parties, it says: I've got two so i won't have to go back to the stash too soon, aren't I clever - and I AM SO READY TO PARTY THAT I HAVE TWO BEERS!

Wayne would drink the top one while holding them both in one hand. When he discards the empty from the top, the other one is ready to take it's place.

I've never seen this technique employed at such a small gathering (where it would be so easy to get another beer). I'd say it's Wayne's way of signifying his party guy status.

This would seem to put the Wayne as shy-guy theory to rest - unless he's just aping the habits of his more socially successful peers in an attempt to fit in at this event in which he is clearly an outsider.

Hey AleXTC, I think Diehl doesn't want us on his website...

We stand together, we stand tall
Every one is on our side after all
Except for France they deserve to die
We should nuke them and then make up some hippi allabye"

It's kind of depressing. And somewhere else on that website his girlfriend is telling him to "get them iraqi suckers". As if Iraq isn't fucked up enough already without having to be occupied by guys like Diehl. 19 year olds straight out of high school who totally buy into all that jingoistic bullshit and have about as much cultural sensitivity as a can of coke.

What's not to get about the Steve Miller Band? That's required listening for anyone born west of the Alleghenies, I can say from experience. Tom Petty DITTO esp because I still have at least a handful of TP on my ipod.

'meat' you?! omfg!

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 3 February 2006 17:06 (eighteen years ago) link

Who said otherwise, Laurel?

Tom Petty is someone who I really like and have no idea why, because it doesn't fit with anything else I listen to.

I saw this thread 3 days ago at work, despondent that I couldn't reply and make note of his lookalike status with Brian Peppers because I had thrown my keyboard at home into a parking lot in a fit of rage. I missed my opportunity by mere minutes. =(

two weeks pass...
so i did a google search for this thread and in the top left corner of the results page, above the results is something about citations next to an image of a scroll (rolled up piece of paper w/ a band around it). next to the scroll is:

- by Resnick - 41 citations
- by Siegel - 14 citations
- by Morris - 20 citations

has this happened w/ anyone else's google searches? so far it's only happened on this one, and none of the other things i've googled today.

tehresa (tehresa), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:15 (eighteen years ago) link

Does it have to do with Google Scholar, I wonder? What did you actually search for? "so not gonna happen"?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:23 (eighteen years ago) link

i searched: so not gonna happen
no quotes.
when i do it w/ quotes, the citations thing doesn't come up.

tehresa (tehresa), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Hmmm, it doesn't show up for me.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:26 (eighteen years ago) link

i think this computer is cursed. i can't get the print screen function to work, either.

i miss my mac!

tehresa (tehresa), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:27 (eighteen years ago) link

the scroll image, is named scholar-onebox.gif, so perhaps you're right, jaymc. the odd thing is that neither the citation list or image links to anything.

tehresa (tehresa), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:29 (eighteen years ago) link

It happened to me. Here's the first search result:

Tieteelliset artikkelit haulle so not gonna happen
Reasoning in Conversation - by Resnick - 41 citations
The Motives of Gay Men for Taking or Not Taking the HIV ... - by Siegel - 14 citations
Vote. com - by Morris - 20 citations

"Tieteelliset artikkelit haulle..." = Finnish for "scientific articles for search...".

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:30 (eighteen years ago) link

And for me the citations do link to the articles, and it is indeed a Google Scholar thing.
