I will go to my grave pretending Hong Chau's nomination here was actually for The Menu.

Seen all but The Whale, voted for Condon. Wakanda is fine and Bassett is fine in it, but it's mostly a steely-gaze role that she can do in her sleep. Curtis is pretty funny, but Condon's character I thought was almost the best thing in Banshees.

Of the ones I've seen, I think Stephanie Hsu gave the most emotional and conflicted performance, trying to come to terms with her resentment of her mother and trying to see her in a different light

I still haven't watched The Whale, but am looking forward to seeing Hong Chau as the annoying competitive landlady in Kelly Reichardt's Showing Up.
That film isn't going to have a US release until April

Sort of surprised myself by voting for Hsu over Condon here.
