I think it speaks a lot to my younger self's fandom of Eric Johnson's detuned bendy riffing in Archers of Loaf, a playing style I've never been able to replicate.

yeah, it is a bit reminiscent of some of the archers stuff.

i can only clearly hear the tremolo during some of his solos, but he's also using very drippy modulation at the same time he is playing this way so it's probably all additive.

some video here of this guy playing, watch closely from like 4:00 - 4:20. he uses the tremolo to do like accentuated bends on individual notes, not for shields style general warbling

the blurb on their bandcamp cites Gimmer Nicholson as an influence which I wouldn't have thought of but totally makes sense
