Well, yeah. But the shamelessness of including one song from the film, several tracks that straight -up didn't exist until after the release of the film, and releasing the whole thing two years after it was out of theatres is very much in the spirit of this thread.

It's sort of a "If You Liked the Hackers Soundtrack" playlist

that playlist rules. should probably have at least one tune by Fluke in place of Leftfield but whatever. IMO "Fire" by Scooter belongs on every single late 90s soundtrack that song rules so fucking much

A similar example is the Trainspotting #2 CD from 1997 - though to its credit there it still has a few songs from the film (including Dark & Long - criminal that it couldn't make vol 1).

Trainspotting 2 made a little more sense, as its release more or less tied into the video/laser disc release of the film. Whereas the other Hackers collection feels more like an after the fact cash grab (albeit a very well-curated one) put together to compete with the original MTV AMP comp and the still-selling original Hackers album.

I am confident that there are much worse records than any of these.

Hackers had yet ANOTHER volume after that. Now is it shameless?

"Hackers to the 3rd power" was 1999 (i think) which could serve as proof for how quickly the film earned its cult status.

Who else picked up the 2nd Trainspotting soundtrack from the used bin at Sam Goody and had the cashier be like "there's a sequel??"

As a kid I first knew of Trainspotting #2 through the back page of the booklet of this comp

and accordingly thought there were two Trainspotting films for years (whatever Trainspotting, which I also knew through the Lust for Life video, even was)

To confuse things more, there eventually was a mediocre sequel to Trainspotting called "T2 Trainspotting" with its own soundtrack. Not sure why they went with that title when a far far more iconic sequel which is commonly called T2 exists
