Someone with a better memory should probably sketch in the details

I am not multiple posters, but I was at school and in 3rd grade on November 22, 1963 and can recall a few bits and pieces of that day. Mostly being very uncertain what it all meant. I can recall even less about the Cuban Missile Crisis about a year before that, but some small scraps of those memories are still accessible.

I was just reading Brother Wayne Kramer's autobiography and he remembers being really freaked out during the Missile Crisis, because a lot of weapons plants were based in or near Detroit

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 23 February 2023 21:21 (one year ago) link

My mother talked about being frightened during the Crisis about having to seek shelter with my two brothers, aged 6 and newborn.

early 2000s exhibitionism was a thing. i remember two of my friends once taking advantage of their newly acquired webcams to start cam-sexin each other, and unfortunately one of the friends hadn't locked her door and her dad walked in while my other friend had his cock out, taking up the entire screen of the webcam.

waiting for a czar to fall (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 February 2023 22:47 (one year ago) link

cock-friend felt bad but also said seeing the bald dad come into frame was hilarious and he couldn't quit giggling after

waiting for a czar to fall (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 February 2023 22:47 (one year ago) link

I remember the 90s/early oughts dick sharing - when I first heard about Louis CK's #METOO moment, my first thought was 'shit, everyone of my skater buddies pulled their peckers out in front of girls at parties' but that of course ignores the power dynamic and overall creepiness of his behavior

Fortunately that fad seems to have died down

I was actually thinking about one of my friends from that time the other day, how cute he was— in a strange way I actually came to the realization that I had a massive crush on this guy about fifteen years too late lmfao, hope he’s doing well

Goose Bigelow, Fowl Gigolo (the table is the table), Friday, 24 February 2023 02:57 (one year ago) link

also deflatormouse that was a v v sweet post thank you, please do stick around and i will try not to wind up in your dreamscape again.

i think the only ilxors who have showed up in dreams are Ned (who said something sort of zen koan-like in a very deep anxiety dream) and J0rdan S

i'm constantly dreaming I'm meeting ilxors in real life and they're screaming at me

i will try not to wind up in your dreamscape again.

aw, i didn't mean to make you feel unwelcome!

I've seen a bunch of 20 year old threads where the OP was saying 'I couldn't find a thread on The Microphones, what say ye ILM?' followed by an irate post from Ned along the lines of 'There's such a thing as the search function, asshole. Use it!' which is very funny because it seems so out of character.

I feel like there's the integrated Ned who walks among us, and that guy is like, a playable character and then there are the dualities of Ned with impossible XP, one who visits you in dreams and yells and another who sits in a lotus position surrounded by an orb of glowing light and imparts sage advice. And those two are the final bosses of ILX.

The field divisions are fastened with felicitations. (Deflatormouse), Friday, 24 February 2023 08:16 (one year ago) link

i think he have a thread for ilx dreams, where Ned is a regular avatar of sorts

def not a regular poster, but been here on and off since May 2002 (and am a 1971 baby)

think once referred to Ned as ILX's Welcome Wagon, was def the first person to welcome me onsite

I'm 1957 vintage, and discovered itt that I'm not the 2nd oldest here (Dan S is). I've been here from the start, first encountering some of you on usenet in alt.music.alternative, and rec.music.misc even before that, though I don't post that much. Even met a few of the LA contingent at FAPs.

I feel like Morbs was my 'welcome wagon', he engaged with my earnest but naive original film opinion posts here and I was ever since in awe of him

We have a 1940, a 1945, two 1950s, a 1951, and a 1952 who have self-proclaimed as being older than I am! Hurray! But they haven't identified themselves, yet. Time for them to step from behind the curtain and claim their prizes.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Monday, 27 February 2023 00:12 (one year ago) link

1940 was CerebralCaustic, iirc.

1940 was the earliest option as well, so that one might not be a real vote. But if it is, that's incredible and it's really cool that we get to have them here on ILX

xp

oh, that makes sense

z_tbd, Monday, 27 February 2023 00:17 (one year ago) link

Anonymous internet polls are notorious for attracting joke responses, but I'm thinking at least a couple of those answers I cited are legit, even if they belong to lurkers who aren't exactly 'regularly posting to ilx.' I'm curious if they'll come forward.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Monday, 27 February 2023 01:27 (one year ago) link

Not sure I buy the two from the '40s. Definitely not 1940.

sarahell, Tuesday, 28 February 2023 16:54 (one year ago) link

though maybe if we count the "thread where we post like our momz" then there would def be a 1945 and probably older

sarahell, Tuesday, 28 February 2023 16:55 (one year ago) link

I think I misread this and thought I was supposed to guess the earliest year. That means there should be one less vote for 1960 (I think) and one more for 1975.

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Tuesday, 28 February 2023 16:56 (one year ago) link

I was hoping this poll would allow me to pass along the moniker of 'oldest known ilxor', but until somebody steps up to claim one of those birth years before 1954 I guess I'm stuck. And considering the many disparaging comments about old people I've read here over the decades, this title doesn't feel much like a position of honor.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Tuesday, 28 February 2023 19:19 (one year ago) link

You starting a "seventies" thread next year?

Mark G, Tuesday, 28 February 2023 20:30 (one year ago) link

With a November birthday, it'll be awfully late in 2024 before I hit 70. And if I'm the whole show until Dan S shows up, then there's no reason to rush it.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Tuesday, 28 February 2023 20:32 (one year ago) link

you're only 7 months ahead of me, and I'm not sure I want to talk about my age in one of these threads. agree that "considering the many disparaging comments about old people I've read here over the decades, this title doesn't feel much like a position of honor."
