Chipotle vs. Taco Bell - Which Treats Your System Worse?

Back when I used to eat this shit, Chipotle destroyed my gut whereas Taco Bell was just fine. I used to always get the Barbacoa beef burrito at Chipotle - with the corn salsa. TB's food is all pretty much the same - I avoided anything with that gross nacho cheese, but otherwise TB is TB. So I guess it's less about Chipotle vs TB and more about Barbacoa beef burrito versus high school cafeteria style "Mexican" food... really bland with no spices.

Everything TB makes is dehydrated except for the cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes.

well i live in mexico central so there are 30000 mex restaurants here but i refuse to pay good money for food that will make me poop badly

The Pico de Gallo from Chipotle is serviceable, and the lime-ish chips are yummy. I like that they use natural meat (which is more than I can say for any of my local favorite taquerias). My big problem with them is that everything sort-of tastes the same, like it all got sprinkled with the same seasoned salt.

They use antibiotic-free, natural meat from suppliers like Meyer (I think that's the name). It's not organic, or grass-fed, but at least it's not the scary-ass cheap meat that it takes to get to $1.25/taco.

I have to admit: while I'm not above using the whole commonplace for a lame joke, I have never understood this whole thing about Mexican food supposedly being hard on the digestive system. (Taco Bell, yes, but not because it's Mexican.) I think I might be more worried about my guts after eating some kind of cream-heavy French thing, you know? Otherwise mostly with n.i.c.k. up there -- Taco Bell gets pretty processed and nasty, whereas Chipotle is in that whole "fairly real as far as fast food goes" category, so ... I mean, I dunno, Chipotle is barely even "Mexican" in any digestively significant way, so far as I can tell, just grilled meat and vegetables/beans/rice/etc. I can even say that I was once at a festival where there was free Chipotle, and I ate basically nothing but three servings of it daily for two and a half days, and experienced no trauma. (In fact, when I got home, they had just put a Chipotle in on my corner, and I somehow ate it again during the next week.)

I hear the "hurts my stomach" thing. Maybe it's the raw onions? I can't figure it out, but it's definitely real (though nothing compared to a lunch at the Indian buffet). Doesn't stop me from eating it, though.

Chipotle burritos are too big. They're significantly bigger than the average taqueria burrito in SF, which with meat, is pretty much a meal in itself. I think they put something in their pinto beans that doesn't sit well with me, and I don't like black beans very much.

I haven't been to Chipotle, but where does Baja Fresh fit in here? Last time I went to Taco Bell (had to get something between school and work) I got pretty tore up.

Baja Fresh is awful. Baja Fresh is probably equivalent to mexican food in Boston.

this is fishy--in nyc chipotle franchises have to put their calorie counts up 1168 is like twice as many as they claim! are they getting like extra cheese and sour cream and guac or what??

totally confused by chipotle-haters in this thread btw--its fast-food mexican, so it seems silly to complain that it isnt authentic or whatever, and as fast-food mexican goes its well-sourced & well-made. in fact i probably trust chipotles meat more than i trust the meat at the taco trucks i frequented in LA (tho i do like those trucks more)

like, i don't see why you would ever eat chipotle if you lived in an actual city, but it's really not that bad -- certainly not even close to taco bell, and it's pretty good as far as big corp fast food goes. their burritos are gross because they don't train their employees how to roll burritos (in my experience), but their tacos are dope & their, uh, bowls are also good. the ingredients are good -- i mean, it's hard to fuck up chicken, black beans, rice, cheese & salsa, imo.

like alright for instance, in my college town here in missouri, we're not exactly authentic taco truck, usa & all the joints around campus are chains, and admittedly chipotle is the best one, but their employees act as if chipotle is some gift to the community. maybe it's different in other places? idk

they get really put off if you ask them to re-roll your burrito because if it's too big they just fold the flap over and look up and smile at you

this might be new franchise disease? when they opened a chipotle near my office i went there a couple times and all the employees were new and clueless yet really enthused about explaining to ppl what barbacoa was or whatever.
