didnt make any improvement on defense and is very turnover prone on offense. i still believe but they need to win games so gotta go with the guys that are the most consistent at the moment. kuminga they are putting on the best offensive players and hes holding up which is so valuable cos he offers an offensive skillset they need badly (drawing fouls, vertical rim threat, back door cutting threat, screen setting). kuminga is really actually the gp2 replacement with upside to be much much better.

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Wednesday, 25 January 2023 21:40 (one year ago) link

kuminga as gp2 v2 would be very nice indeed. moody might need a different situation to build his game.

that's not my post, Wednesday, 25 January 2023 21:44 (one year ago) link

moody & payton are totally different players. payton is a small ball 5 who happens to be 6-2. moody is just a normal shooting guard

i don't think it's much of a coincidence that of their three picks, the one who plays a position where there is almost always playing time in the league (wing/4/small ball 5 hybrid), and who doesn't need the ball in his hands to make an impact, has shown multiple flashes of being a real player. whereas moody is stuck behind klay and poole and dante, and wiseman is stuck behind draymond and looney, while needing the ball a lot to provide value. those aren't really conducive environments to development, imo

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 January 2023 21:54 (one year ago) link

they wanted wise to play the looney role and play it better and it was there for him to do just that but thats not his game, in the least. its an indictment on wiseman as much as its solidified how valuable looney is to the current core.

moody could work as a 2 or 3 but he was too mistake prone at the beginning of the season so kerr found he could trust anthony lamb more and thats who hes been rolling with. i still think moodys minutes will creep up as the season progresses.

really impressed with patrick baldwin jr so far, looks like he could be a nice late draft steal.

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Wednesday, 25 January 2023 22:26 (one year ago) link

taking a young athletic finesse center who has barely played basketball above the high school level and asking him to fill kevon looney's role is an indictment of the warriors to me

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 January 2023 22:29 (one year ago) link

its both. im sure they thought he'd at least be able to swim for ~15-18 minutes a game by now without completely drowning the team in his minutes but..

no matter how good he is on offense it wont matter if he cant figure out the basics of defense, positioning and body control. warriors were really a perfect team for him to join imo, he's just not good. at this point i dont see how his career plays out any different than say... Jahlil Okafor

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Wednesday, 25 January 2023 22:51 (one year ago) link

same & it's possible he was never going to be good. he also ended up in one of the worst situations he could've been in & the warriors throwing him out there w/ a bunch of other young back ups and expecting him to be good makes me think they have a pretty poor understanding of where he is at & how to help him be successful

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 January 2023 22:54 (one year ago) link

he looked horrible sharing minutes w the main guys too. im sure theres an element of "seeee?" to how kerr has coached him/them this season tho. his injuries really havent helped either, he was looking better in a more limited role but sprained his ankle in warmups. might just be one of those guys thats always dinged up so never gets any type of momentum.

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Wednesday, 25 January 2023 23:05 (one year ago) link

constantly dinged up but also not good yeah

micah, Wednesday, 25 January 2023 23:55 (one year ago) link

a bad mix!

whats going on w wiggins!

Andrew Wiggins has popped up on the latest Warriors’ injury report. Questionable for tonight vs Grizzlies with a non-COVID illness. Been a rough month for Wiggins.

Steph-Klay-Wiggins-Dray-Looney have played 659 possessions together this season.

127.6 offensive rating
107.8 defensive rating
+19.8 per 100 possessions

Still probably the most feared team in the West if they can get on a run down the stretch.

they need to make a trade but they wont cause it would involve taking a big write down on young guys who were on the owners personal big board

lag∞n, Friday, 27 January 2023 00:46 (one year ago) link

yeah they seem poised for a big run at some point. the #1 team I hope the nuggs can avoid in the offs

Lots of questions about the recent injury to Stephen Curry from #DubNation. Here is a quick breakdown of the anatomy and treatment principles in general for an injury pattern we don’t typically hear a lot about. pic.twitter.com/XodnnMT83E

Sucks that Steph is hurt again but Klay following up his best statistical month ever with a 42 pt game on 12/16 from 3 is a good balm.

hollinger

The Warriors will write a $130 million check to the league for this roster as things currently stand, and they also face a staggering luxury-tax bill next season if they keep the roster together. Even if Draymond Green declines his player option and departs in free agency, this will be an impressively expensive team.

As a result, even small bits of window dressing could save eye-popping amounts of money after accounting for the tax penalty and the Warriors’ repeater status. That, in turn, focuses attention James Wiseman. He’s owed $9.6 million this year and $12.2 million next year, meaning that San Antonio, Detroit, Utah or Indiana could trade for him without sending anything back. Such a transaction would save the Warriors about $51 million in salary and tax this year and an estimated $85 million in salary and tax next year; a total of $131 million in savings to dump a guy who rarely plays.

crazy

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 February 2023 18:09 (one year ago) link

it is insane, which way will they go we shall see.

todays the first ive even heard that they are 'taking calls' on wiseman and moody

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Tuesday, 7 February 2023 18:29 (one year ago) link

wonder what teams wld be willing to give up for him hes only got one more year left on his deal making midlevel type money and has been bad so far

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 February 2023 18:33 (one year ago) link

a lottery protected first idk its a weird situation hes prob not going to play well enough to demand a big deal so his bird rights arent really worth much

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 February 2023 18:38 (one year ago) link

might be a nice reclamation project for the spurs they have a bunch of picks

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 February 2023 18:41 (one year ago) link

i dont think he has value but i guess you could make the argument he just hasnt had the opp and its not a good fit but cant imagine many teams want to send value back for him

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Tuesday, 7 February 2023 19:06 (one year ago) link

that's a crazy amount of money to pay for someone who is never going to be good on their team, they should just salary dump him. it sucks to whiff on the second overall pick but sometimes it happens. he's the definition of a sunk cost for them

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 7 February 2023 19:07 (one year ago) link

yeah but also they are prideful and dont want to admit it so i doubt they would do it

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Tuesday, 7 February 2023 19:08 (one year ago) link

dumping him could have the added benefit of convincing lacob to stop personally drafting players too

So stoked to have gpii back!! I wonder what kind of big boys will be available on the buyout market. Hope the dubs are still in the playoff hunt by that point.

Chyiv Kyiv (Fetchboy), Thursday, 9 February 2023 22:51 (one year ago) link

they needed defensive help and this will be a big boost. currys injury coinciding with the all star break is huge.

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Thursday, 9 February 2023 23:04 (one year ago) link

completely insane that they saved 130 million and brought back a key championship rotation player at the same time, unfair ;_;

k3vin k., Thursday, 9 February 2023 23:36 (one year ago) link

well 130 was just subtracting wiseman, so it’s offset by whatever payton makes right?

call all destroyer, Thursday, 9 February 2023 23:45 (one year ago) link

oh good point, probably

k3vin k., Thursday, 9 February 2023 23:53 (one year ago) link

yes they save many millions but not that much millions

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Thursday, 9 February 2023 23:55 (one year ago) link

wiseman makes a million more than payton this year and three million more next so they cant have saved too much

whatever the savings is you multiply it by three or whatever the repeater is. it saves some money but more importantly the money they are paying is for an actual contributor.

The Warriors will save roughly $7 million in luxury tax this year after Thursday's trades -- and $30 million in 2023-2024.

Kind of lifts the veil on a lot of ugly, not just from Portland, though I guess I shouldn't be surprised that players get painkillers during the playoffs.

Shartreuse (Leee), Sunday, 12 February 2023 17:17 (one year ago) link

guessing thats a more powerful one but def a lot or maybe even most players take otc anti inflammatories all the time

Toradol is from the NSAID class like ibuprofen but Toradol is only available by prescription and is considered a stronger pain reliever than ibuprofen.

I saw it reported that Payton's agent has denied GPII was given Toradol.
