Interesting! Started as very different publications and somehow converged into the same space.
For a while I _almost_ respected the Washington Times, because it understood the assignment: a moderately right wing counterpoint to the (allegedly) left leaning Post. It kept getting weirder as the Moonie influence intensified, but no one cared. When they stopped trying to compete in the print space, it just spiraled off into the conservaspace.
The Examiner, at first, had a goal of occupying the quick-read tabloid commuter market. In print, it competed with the _Express_. (Disclosure: my beloved wife worked for the Examiner when it was still kinda legit. Then it followed the same weird trajectory into the dextrosphere and was never seen again by normal humans.)
The moral of both stories is that for the last 20 years, ad-supported print journalism was just barely sustainable outside a few legacy institutions. As long as the ostensible "left" flank was held by a duopoly (WaPo/NYT), there was no room for a center or enter-left publication. Hence, both the Times and Examiner knew where to go: the loony conservative fringe.

Iliza Schlesinger is a comic with a completely gonzo style and flawless delivery. Her wit is very sharp, and often devilishly clever.
Her tragic flaw is that she has a narrow topical range. I am slightly sad that she uses so much of her considerable talent to rehash the overdone heteronormative "men and women are different, amirite?" type of material.
In a just world, her laserlike mind and OTT satire would help us unpack issues that aren't limited to the overtrodden ground of "wtf is up with dating?"
I don't have a beef with Nicole Scherzinger, she seems harmless and occasionally charming. My son loves "The Masked Singer" inordinately. Her genial presence is among the least troubling things about it.
