Star Wars: The Mandalorian

i liked mandalorian but was warned off boba fett by everyone that I know IRL who attempted to watch it, all of whom said it was fucking awful.

You could honestly just watch the Mando eps of BoBF and never know you weren’t watching Mandalorian. It’s really really strange.

Yeah just a very strange choice. I feel like Favreau/Filoni/Lucasfilm set up the direction for Mando S3 in S2 then second-guessed and panicked and used BoBF to fix it. They Abrams-ed it, in Star Wars parlance

I was one of the few that enjoyed BoBF too, but hard to argue that the Mando episodes weren't the best

Huh. I enjoyed Book of Boba Fett just fine. (In fact I thought the second episode was really lovely at its best.)

I just thought it was very very weird as a Boba Fett story and it was hard for me to get past that. Taken out of context, as just another sci fi program, I didn’t think it was really bad per se. I think I just wanted it to be a icier than it was though admittedly if this was the journey the character was intended to take it makes sense from a certain point of view. Canonically it plays better and less amateurishly than Rings of Power. The episode you reference is actually good, the best part of the “book”.

they had kid Boba Fett as a bounty hunter (post what, episode 2 where Jango dies?) in the cartoons and I’m not sure if the Book show is even that coherent with the Clone Wars tv show material. eh, whatever

fett surviving the sarlacc is one of the few things they kept from the original expanded universe! (the emperor did return in a comic i think, but i never read that one)

the launch of the larger scale Star Wars extended universe in the 90s that followed ROTJ was basically kicked off with Dark Empire that had a lot of the same plot beats they mysteriously dropped only in that last movie installment. clone emperor, weapons more dangerous and more numerous than the death star, and other shenanigans.

one of the main things I thought when they rebooted and did The Force Awakens was “whew, at least they didn’t do that goofy plot” and here we are. there were some other old continuity bits that were ok that they’ve cycled into some shows

I'm having a really hard time imagining the Star Wars fan that would be excited to sit through two seasons of The Mandalorian and be stoked for season 3, but absolutely refused to watch Book of Boba Fett.

Yeah, CG Luke showed up after kicking butt on that spaceship and took Grogu with him.

I was actually really into the first several episodes of The Book of Boba Fett. I was intrigued by his character and liked seeing the rise of a sympathetic crime lord trying to build alliances on trust. But the jump into Mandalorian S2.5 was really weird - it was good to see that story progress, but the sudden and complete shift from the actual Boba Fett story completely broke the flow. Then it felt like a bit of a mess when they got back on track and accelerated to the finale, which -looked- amazing but played out with series of escalations, baddies missing shots on goodies and last-minute deus ex machinas like kids playing with their toys.
"Here come the reinforcements! Blam blam blam! Yay!!!!" "Yeah well here come the killer robots! Rakkatarakkata!" "Oh no! Run away! Through the main street! You keep missing me until I jump behind cover! Blam blam I shot some of your guys! And here comes the giant monster!!!"
I would like to see more of Boba in the future though.

Also excited to see Thrawn sooner or later, it's a great character, even though I never cared much for the Timothy Zahn books that introduced him - those relied more on flashbacks and repeats of everything from the original trilogy than even Episode 7 can be accused of.

watching the trailer coming off of andor, brain could not comprehend these two take place in the same universe.

also, knowing about the Volume now i'm unreasonably preoccupied with searching it out in this new trailer

I regret to inform you there is an entire Star Wars: Rebels plot arc over multiple seasons featuring Thrawn that culminates in him being jumped to an unknown location through hyperspace involving a young jedi and space whales. They also brought back Timothy Zahn to write three (?) more Thrawn novels in nu-canon

Rebels was so fucking dope

Really is a solid series.

admittedly STILL need to watch Andor, but the "Empire Day" episode of Rebels is kinda what made me more excited for a show like Andor

oh, I was wrong. my reading comprehension was off and I've forgotten things. there are TWO Thrawn trilogies in canon (groan, lol)

note that I would get bored and have time off work around the holidays and I think I've read every Star Wars book that is in-canon, other than maybe some of the newest grand republic era ones

wouldn't hate it if they adapted the Thrawn comic miniseries by Jody Houser, but i think most of those new era comics will be ignored (much like everything they did regarding Han Solo)

that's an adaptation of the first Thrawn novel in the new series of them, so... it's canon, but who knows

My kid LOVES Thrawn. He reads and rereads all the novels constantly. He’d lose his shit if there were an adaptation.

there is a pretty good chance that Thrawn's going to show up in the Ahsoka live show
