Bela Fleck and Alison Krauss are both bluegrass players who branch out, I don't know if you think Plant is gonna go up there and do "Tall Cool One" or what

this is 100% otm - the non-jambandy acts on that bill are all the nonjamband-type music that jamband ppl also listen to.

Had been looking forward to announcement of the Just Like Heaven lineup (we had fun last year), but this is fairly weak:

between winter jazzfest and globalfest, i saw like 18 sets over the mlk weekend. festivals can be fun!

odesza taking over the world due to people a few years younger than me is def one of the biggest things i have no clue about

the last festival I went to that wasn't local was Unsound in 2019, so I'm probably due

i'm going to Hell in the Harbor metal (outdoor) fest in May. haven't been to Baltimore since 2016 so will be nice. logistics going t o be 'fun' to work out but overdue.

festivals ultimately though are as good as the people putting them on. there are good festivals, there are bad festivals.

I get frustrated at the festivals that constantly require you to make poison pill choices between bands because everybody you want to see is playing opposite each other. that's the downside of those festivals that are packed with too many acts in a single day. also hate ones that have excess sound bleed due to stages being too close to each other. feels like sometimes listening to a Charles Ives piece.

I also prefer to take breaks. cannot sit through like 6 straight bands for like 8 hours. during the 70000 Tons of Metal Cruise I only ever saw 4 bands a day, whereas friends of mine made it to like 30-40 sets. I picked the ones most important to me and had a blast and yeah I missed a few I'd have liked to see but i wouldn't have enjoyed them if I got no breather.

it's a balancing act and criticizing other people for not being able to maintain a self-appointed quota is a fool's game.

xp If you can swing it, I recommend getting the “VIP” tickets… having access to those viewing areas was great when we went last year.

Yes, we did it. We go to the local bowl for shows, but this will be the one festival we attend for at least the year. Got to make the most of it.

i got VIP tix for Hell in the Harbor which comes with a free satanic pancake breakfast
