Red Dead Redemption

i accidentally ended up in Saint Denis and man that is an overwhelming experience if you're not expecting it. it's so huge and so beautifully designed, with so much detail to look at. impressive

The whole game is kind of like that. Just so much to look at, so many details.

Finished this the other week. Just an incredible game.

Crazy that you can put in 100 hours plus to complete it and still won't have unlocked all that south western bit of the map

played a lot of RDR2 over the holidays. i need to do more exploration/hunting/etc, i've mostly been following the plot so far. just started the st. denis chapter

they should have a GTA-style thing where you can pick the music while you're riding around, but instead of radio stations, it's different folk singers riding on donkeys next to your horse

I finally started in on the online version.

The missions are pretty much the same, but the characters are fun. Been a few "Wait, I know this guy," moments. My biggest complaint is how much they want you to grind everything three different ways. This will cost money, but this can only be bought with gold. All these neat roles and, well, I guess I'll get a chance at one of them this summer when I can finally afford the right bag.

Live sessions are a different vibe from GTAO. Other players in the missions seem invested in winning the missions. No one really fucks around with you out in the open. Having a defensive mode and not being able to see other players on the map until they're in your vicinity must help.

got to guarma, thought "wow this huge game even has a totally separate tropical island environment, i can't wait to explore it" and then the whole section is basically on rails and is just a lot of running around shooting soldiers, disappointing

Yeah, I didn't mind it, but I also didn't quite get the point. It's basically pre-integrated DLC.

i didn't really care that much about the lack of freedom to explore but the missions on the island were tedious and could've used some variety. i guess following an old lady through a cave and shooting a cannon at a ship was fairly cool.

You want open world, they should have given you the option to swim back to America.

Lot of animals to discover there, and they're gone once you go back.

It’s also at an odd point in the narrative. After this terrible heist that should leave Arthur grief-stricken, here’s Gilligan’s Island. Felt like a lesser version of RDR’s Mexico chapter, as well.

It must have felt like practice for the designers who eventually built Cayo Perico in GTA Online.

And I suspect there'll be more Guarmas/Cayos in GTA6.

it did feel a little too uncharted/tomb raider/assassin's creed; i.e. i've already played a lot of big open-world games with jungle environments

not really enjoying "nagging wife simulator 2018" that much so far though

I think I'm about 75-80% done. seems like such a slog to get through the rest...maybe I should just start playing last of us?

You should probably do that, unless the story hasn't gripped you at all. It has a pretty well executed conclusion.

Haha, yeah that first bit when you're just doing farm chores is a bit of a drag but it does get better.

I guess the main purpose, given how the main story concludes, is that it lets you continue playing to complete any outstanding tasks, challenges, rock paintings etc if you so wish

does the "epilogue" part of the game really open up the full map from RDR1? or just part of it? it's been so long since i played it but i recognize some of the landmarks for sure

I tried again the other night to heroically trudge on to the main story conclusion. I think I’m on chapter 6 now. We’re looking for new land because Dutch is a dumb fuck so we take a canoe to a dimly lit wood and I have to choose between using dynamite to flush out the bad people from their cave hideout or use stealth. I choose dynamite. I’m trying to move the damn character to the area where the dynamite has appeared as an item to interact with. I guess I get close? Then I’m throwing the dynamite and suddenly I’m in the cave somehow, and there’s a lady screaming and people shooting at me. I start to mash all the controller buttons together while turning the character around and jumping because I still cannot remember the mappings.

Apparently parts of Mexico are there but you have to use a glitch to get those parts of the map xp

Red Dead Redemption

Reportedly "Red Dead Redemption" was just given a rating in South Korea, implying a remaster or remake is on its way.

That would be decent, and long overdue. The undead nightmare dlc was brilliant.

I’m going to need a PS5 version of RDR2 running at a consistent 60fps first. (And thus marks my first ILG post, I think?)

That's pretty cool - never played it and dove into RDR2 first, which as a prequel, makes playing RDR1 remastered a "sequel" of sorts that will slot in perfectly once it's out.

I've got a huge backlog of games great and small, but even though I can't imagine a remaster/remake is particularly imminent, if it dropped tomorrow it would be at the top of my queue.

Allowing Morgan to be able to swim, but not Marston since he wasn't able to in RDR1, was both trolling and a brilliant move at keeping continuity.

Though I sure hope the GTA6 characters can swim in Vice City.

lol it looks like Rockstar is pulling a Nintendo, releasing a straight port of the 13-year old Red Dead Redemption to PS4 and Switch for a very contemporary $50. It includes the Undead Nightmare DLC and ... that's it. No remaster, no remake, no 60fps, etc.

No! It's being released for Switch and *PS4*! Which of course can play it, but I mean, a 13-year old game getting belatedly re-released for ... the previous console generation that's not even being made anymore?

Saw a comment that it may be cheaper to buy an old PS3 and a copy of the game.

grimly amusing that the reason it's not being released for the current-gen xboxes is because microsoft's backward compatibility / fps boost feature means that rdr already runs at 4k there if you have a copy of the 360 version

meanwhile rockstar/take two are trying to squeeze 50 bucks out of everyone else for a 'remaster' that's at best gonna be exactly what xbox owners get for free

good to see that the universally appalled reaction to their gta remasters hasn't soured them on the idea of money for old lassos

i'd assume that since it's coming to ps4/5 there might be the possibility of running it at 4k which you might stretch the definition of remaster to encompass

but given their history of shocking laziness i guess it's entirely possible it'll top out at 720p
