Aphex Twin "Analord"

I don't know what I was getting at when I wrote that, cos I've enjoyed Analord and I don't hate Drukqs at all. I think I meant that those 2 releases have killed off RDJ's critical reputation, but I don't consider that a loss.

Still, the CD comp's got no "Steppingfilter", "Phonatacid", "Laricheard", "Analoggins" etc etc etc = odd choice of tracks.

I think the lack of innovatory fireworks on Analord is quite deliberate. Instead of trying to blow your mind, he's wriggling inside it.

plus, i think afx has gotten better as a musician and it shows on the new stuff.

If the selection of tracks for this "best of" really is bad, then the songs that are better must be mindblowing. This is one of my favorite releases of the year, by far.

and there was plenty of space left on the disk as well (i think it was about 55 minutes). which just feels stingy.

it does all blur into one a bit but this is all still really good. tho i do think that even tho hes gotten better, chops-wise, theres nothing all that distinct that stands out. it doesnt resonate quite as much as the older stuff. still love it though.

Pissed Up in SE1 is pretty much the only AFX song i want to hear these days.

Whenever I see this thread on the New Answers page, I get a small twinge of hope that maybe he's finally gonna release a new album and somebody posted a press release or something. No luck every time :(

Which tracks, specifically, are better?

not better, but some highlights not included are:

Backdoor.netshadow (analord 9)
Phonatacid (track is pushing ten minutes) (analord 2)
Laricheard (analord 2)

I think the Tuss Confederation Trough ep is an improvement on the analord style. The tracks on it are more playful and colourful.

For someone who at one point was the biggest fanboy of this dude, I have neither really checked out Analord or even know if he's released anything in the last couple of years... There was that Tuss thing he did in about 07 - anything else?

It was always hard to justify buying these records at import prices because they were interesting but not really jacking. It was always easier to cut to the chase and buy used copies of old Detroit and Chicago stuff.

I listened to the Analord Mix Tape when I was running the other day, and it was really good. That being said, it isn't something that I would want to deal with on a 12" level. I would rather just listen to it in an album format and be done with it.

It is funny that this thread popped up again. I have listened to the Analord mixtape a few times in the last couple days. It keeps getting better, really nice skewed house music.

Any opinion on the new tracks?
