Lol @ Lewandowski crying on the floor after scoring that

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 26 November 2022 14:49 (one year ago) link

Wonder if the defender will still get his Rolls after that..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 26 November 2022 14:53 (one year ago) link

Lol muffed that one

Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Saturday, 26 November 2022 14:55 (one year ago) link

Kylian killin' em

Credit to FRA. DEN looked dangerous at moments, it could have gone the other way. But unless DEN can beat AUS they are going home.

the pinefox, Saturday, 26 November 2022 18:22 (one year ago) link

AUS-DEN will come down to which side can show the greater sense, or perhaps even sensibility

imago, Saturday, 26 November 2022 18:29 (one year ago) link

Argentina not really impressing so far, wouldn't be surprised if Mexico score.

link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 26 November 2022 19:19 (one year ago) link

Fingers crossed, it would be hilarious if the pre-tournament favourites went out.

Oh wouldn't it be rubbery? (Tom D.), Saturday, 26 November 2022 19:25 (one year ago) link

If Arg draw and beat Poland they meet France.

France aren't as good as 2018 to me. It will probably be good enough to beat Argentina. Unless they improve.

If they improve now surely they beat Mex.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 26 November 2022 19:41 (one year ago) link

Argentina have scrapped their way into the game but look well short of form still

this display name blocked by FIFA (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 26 November 2022 19:51 (one year ago) link

I was under the impression Brazil and France were the favourites

Argentina are shockingly poor though

Number None, Saturday, 26 November 2022 19:54 (one year ago) link

Couple of really nasty tackles in the first half, wonder if Roy Keane has any funny comments to make about those.

link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 26 November 2022 20:07 (one year ago) link

A lot better and now a goal!

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 26 November 2022 20:24 (one year ago) link

wowow

nashwan, Saturday, 26 November 2022 20:25 (one year ago) link

Mexico totally toothless tbh.

2-0 is a very flattering scoreline but the goals were great at least. Going to be some tense final games in this group.

Almost never seen them be any good in WCs

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 26 November 2022 20:59 (one year ago) link

Arg dominated that 2nd half. 2-0 is about right. Can see them taking out Poland no problem.

Underrated post.

The play’s the thing

The Dark End of the Tweet (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 26 November 2022 21:16 (one year ago) link

Gary Neville talked about players not fearing Messi is getting the laughs. Other good one was how apparently you could exchange the English and Argies and no one would notice!

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 26 November 2022 21:32 (one year ago) link

I would like them to meet. Probably the only chance left for an England side to face Messi.

nashwan, Saturday, 26 November 2022 22:07 (one year ago) link

Neville and even Keane were very confident at HT about how poor ARG were.

Then at FT didn't really refer to this fact.

Impressed by Joe Cole saying that Messi's movement was "counter-intuitive".

Sorry for MEX, who have never gone beyond a WC QF if that.

the pinefox, Saturday, 26 November 2022 22:13 (one year ago) link

I think it was worse than that, I think it was more "these players couldn't get in the England team". For a start we don't want to hear about the fucking England team at half time in an Argentina v Mexico game.

Copa America 2016

I know it’s a distraction, but I keep wondering where Kun Agüero is.

Almost never seen them be any good in WCs

there was that one time they battered the much-fancied croatia in 2014, i watched it in a bar full of mexican students and they went absolutely bananas

o shit the sheriff (NickB), Saturday, 26 November 2022 23:24 (one year ago) link

and now all we hear about that tourney is "NO ERA PENAL!!!"

Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Saturday, 26 November 2022 23:29 (one year ago) link

this Mexico team is one of the worst it's had in years (no wonder the US managed to beat them twice in a row for the first time in a while during Gold Cup/Nations Cup). few of the hallmarks of those successful, speedy, athletic Mexico teams that could just overwhelm you.

Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Saturday, 26 November 2022 23:29 (one year ago) link

let's be real, a squad with better options wouldn't include Raul Jimenez who hasn't had competitive football in months

this display name blocked by FIFA (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 27 November 2022 00:04 (one year ago) link

lol that definitely crossed my mind.

Wonder if anyone has watched that new thing about the Mexico-USA rivalry yet that I am curious about and think I mentioned already upthread sorry for spam

The Dark End of the Tweet (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 27 November 2022 00:17 (one year ago) link

Seen lots of ads for it but haven't had the time to seek it out yet. Neando otm about El Tri lately though, their golden generation has aged and not accomplished much of late. Some of the best players from the past few years have been on the outside looking in because of pettiness wrt whoever was the coach at the time, so they haven't developed a solid core.

And fuck em anyway, lol

I just remembered watching them during Nations and thinking "didn't these guys used to be fast"

Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Sunday, 27 November 2022 01:42 (one year ago) link

At least Cobi Jones is now safely ensconced in the studio, where he is no longer subjected to ignominious fouling by said rivals.

The Dark End of the Tweet (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 27 November 2022 03:57 (one year ago) link

Should have said “Ned’s old schoolmate Cobi Jones.”

I was about to say. Thinking of him the other day!

The most lovable team are up in 45 mins, against the worst team, can't go wrong can it?

imago, Sunday, 27 November 2022 09:17 (one year ago) link

Ofc there was the 2006 Mexico Argentina game, which is why I said 'almost never' but I feel like they could've had a nice run to maybe a semi- once xp
