can you really blame the young people who have came out of the last decade of... this world
usually though, i would expect such nostalgia from the olds and not from people in their 20s-30s coming of age post-2008 recession
capitalism sucks, but at least we have the fantasy of Animal Crossing.

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 8 February 2023 22:44 (one year ago) link

Reportedly $70?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 8 February 2023 22:58 (one year ago) link

street fighter 2 turbo was $79 when it came out in 1992

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 8 February 2023 23:00 (one year ago) link

i guess 1993 by the time it hit the US. either way, i played it so much that i was able to optimize my enjoyment-to-cost ratio to over 500 enjoyment points per dollar

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 8 February 2023 23:03 (one year ago) link

Yeah, fair enough. Breath was one of the few games I've played totally worth $70, tbh. Sort of surprised there's been no gameplay footage this close to release, though. I'm sure it will run well, I'm just wondering if, as has been rumored, it may be the same map, mostly the same enemies, etc. Not that that would be a dealbreaker, either. Again, another game where more of the same (plus flying or something) is probably OK.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 8 February 2023 23:22 (one year ago) link

its "the same map" but different

lag∞n, Wednesday, 8 February 2023 23:31 (one year ago) link

I’m the sucker who would buy this at any price

Nintendo’s voucher program lets you give Nintendo $100 in exchange for two vouchers, each of which you can redeem for a game from a specific list. That list now includes Tear of the Kingdom, meaning you can effectively get one of the most anticipated games of 2023 for just $40 if you’re willing to effectively buy another game at full price.

The list of qualifying games includes lots of old stuff that’s frequently on sale, but also plenty of more recent hits like Splatoon 3, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Splatoon 3, and Fire Emblem Engage. What was a maximum savings of $20 is now $30 with Tears of the Kingdom in the mix. The vouchers last up to 12 months, though it’s not exactly clear when Nintendo will stop selling them.

I was annoyed that my Switch online sub got renewwed last month when I'd meant ot let it lapse - I barely used it after dicovering the Occarina port was so shit. But now, with all this Gamecube stuff and Warioware etc I am dead pleased.

Now I just need new joycons, mine have developed fatal stick drift.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Thursday, 9 February 2023 05:44 (one year ago) link

i will buy boku no natsuyasumi, tim convinced me

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 9 February 2023 18:01 (one year ago) link

they should make what they want to imo

ciderpress, Thursday, 9 February 2023 18:11 (one year ago) link

The Ocarina port got better btw!

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 9 February 2023 20:48 (one year ago) link

It did? I might have to try it again then! It was the controls I couldnt deal with, they were janky as fuck.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Thursday, 9 February 2023 23:16 (one year ago) link

guess what metroid prime with modern controls is really good

adam, Friday, 10 February 2023 00:10 (one year ago) link

I’ve been hoping/waiting for a Metroid Prime port for years, as it’s probably my favorite game of all time.
Even bought a used Gamecube a while back to play it again, but it looks like ass on a modern tv so I haven’t returned to it much. Got the remaster as soon as I heard about it. So weird that it’s finally here.

Anyway it looks great. Controls are ridiculously smooth.

latebloomer, Saturday, 11 February 2023 00:21 (one year ago) link

yeah, you gotta love those instant release dates. available...today!

Nhex, Saturday, 11 February 2023 02:38 (one year ago) link

Dude: Metroid Prime

feed me with your chips (zchyrs), Tuesday, 14 February 2023 17:33 (one year ago) link

everyone is saying this

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 17:35 (one year ago) link

Speaking as somebody who never played the original, or any of the other Primes, this game rules. It's astonishing how well they captured the feeling of Metroid in three-dimensional space. I think I might even like it more than 2D Metroid. I love those games, but I've never found them difficult to put down. Whereas this, I'm having a very hard time putting down.

feed me with your chips (zchyrs), Tuesday, 14 February 2023 17:37 (one year ago) link

Actually, that's not true: I was pretty well obsessed with Dread until I hit a wall with a boss that was just Too Dang Hard

feed me with your chips (zchyrs), Tuesday, 14 February 2023 17:38 (one year ago) link

yeah its genuinely just as good and iconic a 3d transition as mario 64 and ocarina were

ciderpress, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 18:29 (one year ago) link

iirc it's the only 1st person shooting game I've played where the jumping doesn't feel clunky and unnecessary. of course it's probably the most recent one I've actually played lol

frogbs, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 18:31 (one year ago) link

Fills my heart to see people loving it today as much as I did back when it came out. I remember it being the game that finally made me breakdown and get a GameCube. Hope Part 3 does get a remaster, I missed out on that one.

Nhex, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 18:44 (one year ago) link

metroid prime OST is all time, i ended up turning the FX volume way down so i could crank the score

adam, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 18:45 (one year ago) link

I haven’t played prime in forever, will likely have to set aside a wekend

POLIZISTEN VERSINKEN IM SCHLAMM (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 14 February 2023 18:46 (one year ago) link

Now imagine if Autechre composed the soundtrack to it

octobeard, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 18:51 (one year ago) link

I would have loved that, honestly. I know that the existing soundtrack is well-loved, but to my ears, it's just OK

feed me with your chips (zchyrs), Tuesday, 14 February 2023 19:10 (one year ago) link

Been replaying Minish Cap, enjoying it heaps. Even dipping into some silly things like Warioware and Game & Watch Donkey Kong.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 14 February 2023 22:04 (one year ago) link

about 12 hours into Fire Emblem Engage, really enjoying it.
battles are tactical again and a good challenge, just enough story, plenty of optional stuff to mess around with if you want to min/max your builds but also ignorable if not, even the mini gacha mechanic is well thought out and unobtrusive. probably going to sell less due to seemingly ditching the waifu aspect, but for my tastes easily the best FE since Awakening. the main characters design never stops looking derpy though.
