I loved it. There should be a whole season of Jeopardy with just those three. Such a fun game. And "I will bet 2500...magic beans" made me lol (think it was Mattea who said that?)
I also noticed that Mattea started saying "What's." Wonder if Amodio thought, "Hey, you're stealing my bit!"
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 9 November 2022 15:34 (one year ago) link
Yes! That game was such a blast...Ken Jennings swearing (and having to be bleeped!) after accidentally giving away an answer, Mattea getting audience reactions from her saying "that was my favorite song when I was 4" (as if it was some intentional sick burn - I don't think it was) and then later on Amy saying (after a correct response) "that was my favorite song when I was 27"...Ken poking fun at Matt (after Amy said she was invited to the White House after her winning streak) for him throwing the first pitch at a minor-league game after his winning streak. I don't follow any sports...I can't remember the last time I've been this excited by any competitive event, honestly.
― ernestp, Thursday, 10 November 2022 02:20 (one year ago) link
yes that game was a blast. pretty interesting that mattea wiped the floor with the three of them buzzer wise. would love for the three of them to come back and do a more competitive game for charity or something.

amy was pretty unflappable in the semifinal. tyler is a strong player but she kinda ended up cruising. it could’ve been an even bigger margin had she not guessed wrong off two of tyler’s misses in double jeopardy the matt semifinal game was amazing, one of the best jeopardy games i’ve ever seen. they got the daily doubles off the board within like the first 5 clues which i think really hurt matt given the aggressive nature of his wagering. he was only able to get up from 4,000 to 8,000 and then had to play the rest of the game more or less heads up with the other two guys. it didn’t break his way. i also was completely shocked at his final jeopardy wager, it feels like he sometimes psychs himself out under pressure. ken even called out how strong he is in geography. i don’t think it would’ve mattered in the end but that was wild. the professor guy who won is a really strong player. sad we won’t be getting the amy/matt/mattea final tho
― J0rdan S., Friday, 11 November 2022 05:34 (one year ago) link
rip Matt, would’ve prob taken him against the field but he seemed somewhat unengaged especially as the game wore on and he didn’t grab his usual advantage
― Clay, Friday, 11 November 2022 05:36 (one year ago) link
FYI, Jeopardy uploaded the entire exhibition game to YouTube here. Ken's amusing mess-up is at 9:39.
Today game (Mattea's semifinal game) was wild - no spoilers here, but one moment in particular had big gasps from the audience.
― ernestp, Friday, 11 November 2022 21:37 (one year ago) link
All three players in the Amodio semi had a good game. The middle guy had a good game considering he did not get any of the daily doubles.
After the professor tournament, I thought that guy might do pretty well as him and the guy who was runner up in that tournament both seemed to know a boodle of obscure stuff.
I still don't get Matt going 'zero' on final jeopardy with a geography question as that seemed to be one subject he would tear through in his winning reign.
Today's is not on here until 730, I have not seen it yet.

hey he's not totally wrong. for a competition that throws around terms like "greatest of all time" it's a fundamentally unfair format. what if NFL quarterbacks had to retire after a loss? if NBA players were forced to score 20 every game? if blowing a save blew your career??? then what

hmmm, i don't know, maybe he should try being an olympic gymnast or skier, where you spend your entire life training for a single event, at which you get one walk down the balance beam or one run down the hill (two if you're lucky), and if you fuck it up, that's it, probably forever.

Absolutely nutball ending to last night’s Celebrity Jeopardy. Patton had a solid streak towards the beginning, but Brendan soon mastered the buzzer. You could tell Patton was getting frustrated — when he did manage to buzz in (and he was always correct), he sounded more and more tense, especially after Cera hit a big Daily Double. I knew Patton would ultimately triumph, but I didn’t think it would be that dramatic.

Anyone watching Jeopardy! Masters? I don't like that they reveal the locations of the Daily Doubles to the audience, but I kind of like the whole rankings and leaderboard setup. And of course it's extremely entertaining.

I kinda like the DD reveal, it added some anticipation when one of the players was running down a category & everyone missed the second to last answer so they decided to try a new category, but we knew the last answer was the DD just hanging out there waiting for them to come back to it.

seen a few stories today about mayim, who was hosting the final weeks of regular jeopardy this season, walking out on the final week of shoots in solidarity with striking writers, and ken stepping in to shoot the episodes in her place. if true, that sucks. jeopardy's a union show. i loathe her as a host, but full-on respect to her for this.

So how about James's Final Jeopardy zinger last night? All in good fun, of course, but I feel like Ken was kinda stumped on how to respond.

not really enjoying how hard they're trying to turn every player into a personality in this tournament. i think part of jeopardy's charm is how the gameplay is so rigid and formulaic that only tiny bits of personality are allowed to slip through, and only in certain moments. there's a built-in mystery as to who these people are. you're always left wanting more.
i liked every one of these six players more when i knew them less.
also i find james' zingers not all that zingy. a little cringe even.
