I meant to say that I had no clue what or who this woman could be yet, and then tried to get closer through typing in her father and her, you know… and that brought me very, very close indeed

I solved Redactle Unlimited in 54 guesses with an accuracy of 61.11% and a time of 00:23:20.
footled around with country, people, food, ethnicity, before 'number' and 'data' helped me zoom out.

I need a clue for todays, I'm circling around the examples in songs and literature and I think its throwing me off?

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Saturday, 22 October 2022 00:00 (one year ago) link

a clue... start from scratch, try different subjects. I hadn't heard of any of the songs, they're not contemporary classics for sure.

the four letter thing that it is is very common indeed, comes in three main varieties.

ledge, Saturday, 22 October 2022 06:56 (one year ago) link

198 in 25 (76%)

on phone Firefox the numbers aren't appearing in the boxes but further up the screen. share also appeared to do nothing (gave me 12 wrong options, then said copied, but it hadn't)

Hideous Lump, Saturday, 22 October 2022 20:01 (one year ago) link

Do they often leave a big clue unredacted, or does the program have trouble reacting hyphenated words?

Hideous Lump, Saturday, 22 October 2022 20:05 (one year ago) link

do you mean round-up? I guess it treats each word separately and they are (or can be) prepositions so it doesn't redact them.

ledge, Saturday, 22 October 2022 20:15 (one year ago) link

unless there's a bigger clue I missed.

ledge, Saturday, 22 October 2022 20:16 (one year ago) link

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Saturday, 22 October 2022 20:23 (one year ago) link

got it in one from ledge's clue

i think the problem is more that both parts of 'round-up', 'round' and 'up' are givens

koogs, Saturday, 22 October 2022 21:03 (one year ago) link

Ledge, yes that's the one

IMO a fun one to uncover today.

Fartleby the Scrivener (Leee), Monday, 24 October 2022 16:55 (one year ago) link

Gah! I have uncovered so many words and still cant quite put my finger on it.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 25 October 2022 01:12 (one year ago) link

Got it!
128 guesses 59.38% accuracy.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 25 October 2022 01:20 (one year ago) link

It was uncovering the word (STRONG HINT) capacity that twigged it for me.

I solved Redactle Unlimited in 76 guesses with an accuracy of 73.68% and a time of 00:36:17.

maybe the longest I've gone, over 50 guesses, without getting a single word in the first paragraph.

can't pretend I'm not a little bit intrigued by a book called Against Empathy: The Case for Rational Compassion.

similar experience to you, Leee.

was able to identify a lot, up and including the cliffs in Scotland, so I knew where to look for my cheating exploit, and even then it wasn’t all that easy.

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 25 October 2022 19:47 (one year ago) link

I got it but also had to cheat, once I knew what general topic it was (I was racking my brain re 8th grade geology haha).

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 25 October 2022 22:16 (one year ago) link

oop sorry I should have hidden that

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 25 October 2022 22:16 (one year ago) link

Cheated by consulting the DK/Smithsonian Rocks & Minerals Handbook that my child got for his birthday last month.

Somehow I feel better about cheating if I can find the answer in a book rather than online.

Hans Holbein (Chinchilla Volapük), Wednesday, 26 October 2022 04:12 (one year ago) link

I thought I'd got lucky when I accidentally typed lime instead of line - that got me to cement but then I foolishly had 70 odd guesses of building terms before the geology penny dropped. got sedimentary rock now, and yup it's cheatin' time.

A lot more inferrable than yesterday! My strategy of trying to uncover words in the first paragraph paid off when I found Notre Dame.

Fartleby the Scrivener (Leee), Wednesday, 26 October 2022 20:22 (one year ago) link

I'm just gonna post here that I have no idea what the ten letter word is, because usually when I do that it then comes to me straight away.

ledge, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 21:13 (one year ago) link

I got the 2nd half of the answer really quickly and I dont want to cheat to solve but my history knowledge fails me here :(

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 26 October 2022 23:31 (one year ago) link

Eyy got it. I was on the wrong track thinking around the Church.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 26 October 2022 23:41 (one year ago) link

75 guesses - prob wouldve got it sooner but luck of the draw on the words I'd worked out I guess.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 26 October 2022 23:42 (one year ago) link

204: I have the second word but I'm very doubtful that I can get the first.

Fartleby the Scrivener (Leee), Thursday, 27 October 2022 17:45 (one year ago) link

same. and I failed yesterday's.

ledge, Thursday, 27 October 2022 17:53 (one year ago) link

OMFG cheated sometimes I hate this game.

Fartleby the Scrivener (Leee), Thursday, 27 October 2022 18:04 (one year ago) link

The reason I'm so bothered was because I'd already entered small and got a handful of hits, so I didn't think to try "little."

I solved Redactle Unlimited in 111 guesses with an accuracy of 54.05% and a time of 00:36:40.

I also cheated a bit after I got the second part. felt sort of vindicated when I saw that it’s also called “——- of Athena”, because I did actually try “of Athens” early on because it rang a bell. it’s also one of the species I know - I even translated its Dutch name into English (that would be ‘stone ——-‘), but unfortunately the names are not related in this case

I solved Redactle Unlimited in 176 guesses with an accuracy of 82.39% and a time of 00:29:27. took me waaaayy too long to get the second word, but I didn’t mind, I just kept firing every word I could think of at it to fill out the text, knowing that it would come to me sooner or later

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Friday, 28 October 2022 21:31 (one year ago) link

I got this in 52 with 75% accuracy - there was a giveaway phrase halfway down that made me type "disability" and from there I worked it out reasonably well.

I solved Redactle Unlimited in 35 guesses with an accuracy of 77.14% and a time of 00:33:47.

actually took me 12 hours (though i was asleep for 8 of them) to think of the second word, got it when I started typing examples and then thought of bipolar disorder..

ledge, Saturday, 29 October 2022 07:04 (one year ago) link

Should have worked out todays way faster than I did. 125 guesses, 31.20% accuracy. But I got it without cheating (just a lot of cycling through options once I knew the answer was a kind of [redacted].
