pineapple on pizza

I can see what attracts some people to pineapple on a pizza, but it is but one stop along the road that ends with owls marrying pussycats and becoming boat owners.

Aimless gulps, and holds pussycat tighter as the furious hooting reaches a crescendo and storm clouds gather above the lake

one time on a family vacation my niece caused a consternation by hijacking the family pizza order and getting us one of those wagon wheel-sized pizzas with limp chunks of pineapple strewn all across it that even she admitted she didn’t like. that monstrosity festered in the fridge all week, and she was a stinkeye magnet for the rest of the trip.

this was the same trip where she infamously asked “how do you eat a baked potato”

(she was in her 20s)

(and probably stoned)

I am totally down for a juxtaposition of sweet/salty/savory, but 99% of the time this is a ham-fisted (lol) way to go about it.

as far as sweet/savory goes I’ve been enjoying apples with brie, pears with savory salads, dates in Moroccan rice dishes, and dried currants in Zuni's roast chicken/bread salad recipe.

I like both ham and pineapple and they are a good combination. I will happily eat them on a pizza. My favorite pizza though is still sausage with mushrooms

The acidity of the pineapple nicely balances out how basic the ppl who go on about this are

we've been experimenting with domino's design your own pizza, and will confirm the best combo of all is:

(regular crust)
*pineapple
*ground beef
*pickle slices

coworker turned me on to pineapple with jalapeno pizza. i am def a disgusting savage

I'm a pineapple on pizza hater, and it's funny cos anti-pineapple people whine about the "pro-pineapple pizza people being so in your face about it" and pro-pineapple people say "let people like stuff, why anti-pineapple people so judgmental", and you start to realize it's...not about the pineapple at all

I do wonder if there's a correlation between "strong opinions about pizza toppings" and "unwilling to try unfamiliar/foreign food"

Feel like I mentioned on another thread but one of my favorite local pies is anchovy, pineapple & 'nduja on a rectangular lacy, frico crust.

The combination of toppings reminds me of a niche vietnamese sauce* and it works so well on a pizza.

We made a southwestern sweet potato & soy chorizo pizza last night using some leftovers, it was a triumph.

nice. i'm generally a 2 toppings max person. don't like a slice that is unwieldy if picked up. have never had one with, but chorizo/soyrizo seems like a terrific concept.

xxxp i remember the first time i went to the gold coast (qld australia) there was a pizza place that featured both banana and corn amongst the toppings, just reading this on the menu caused me to vomit and die instantly

pineapple is ok

some places here offer an “aussie” pizza which customarily features ham/bacon and egg - I haven’t partaken in a long time but used to be quite partial to a good one - I don’t know what makes this combination “aussie” other than perhaps we were the first colony godless enough to try it?
