xp there was some epic dragon stuff and big bloody battles. some exciting set pieces to come, and some moments of extreme discomfort and (emotional and physical) brutality!
― comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Thursday, 6 October 2022 17:36 (one year ago) link
Matt Smith as Daemon when in the full armor pretty much looks like Elric from the comics, especially with the dragon on the helm.
― earlnash, Friday, 7 October 2022 03:13 (one year ago) link
good lord, this show just keeps delivering the brutality
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Monday, 10 October 2022 03:58 (one year ago) link
yeah, the decapitation scene was some more body horror. there is a lot of it. it is just as it was in real life, in the time of the game of thrones - life was brutal and so we must see every entrail
― Karl Malone, Monday, 10 October 2022 04:02 (one year ago) link
btw that was a fucking episode. old man dying viserys was incredible. my first thoughts on his character and how he was playing it were so negative. if/when i do a S1 rewatch i'm looking forward to watching the first episodes with an eye on how it will play out. great character

I’m impressed the silent sisters were able to keep the top of his skull from falling over and rolling off the table. I guess this maybe isn’t their first rodeo in that regard.
Anyways - aside from massive difficulties keeping track of these fucking dragon people names, I very much enjoyed the episode. Shits gonna get real soon!!

I cant get over how Daemon just cut that guy's head off and they kind of all went "oh well, lets go have supper!" Seemed a bit weird.
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 10 October 2022 10:12 (one year ago) link
he was gonna get executed anyway for his treason so they were like “welp, i guess now we don’t have to pay a headsman”

that particular scene had me cackling and screaming more than any moment so far. Daemon daring him to say it, which led to chants of "say it say it say it" over here, and then Vaemond just utterly shouting the b word and whoosh, head departs body, chef's kiss. Quality TV making, I tell you what.
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Monday, 10 October 2022 13:42 (one year ago) link
The b-word is not allowed in the throne room, official policy
― Karl Malone, Monday, 10 October 2022 13:57 (one year ago) link
he did yell it quite loud

man the names things, so confusing. I paused this episode 10 times to try to sort out which kid was which when they were talking about them.
― dan selzer, Monday, 10 October 2022 15:11 (one year ago) link
alicent's kids:aegon - short, blonde, both eyesaemond - tall, blonde, one eyehelaena - blonde, likes bugs, only girl
she has a fourth kid in the books, prob cut from the show tho
rhaenyra's kids "with laenor":jacaerys (jace) - tall, black curly hairlucerys (luke) - younger, black curly hairjoffrey - even younger, black curly hair
rhaenyra's kids with daemon:aegon (yes another one) - child, blonde hairviserys (yes another one) - toddler, blonde hair
― comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Monday, 10 October 2022 15:30 (one year ago) link
this episode was excellent; this show is actually getting better with each episode.
― akm, Monday, 10 October 2022 15:39 (one year ago) link
and helaena is married to brother aegon right?
now do daemon's kids.
― dan selzer, Monday, 10 October 2022 15:54 (one year ago) link
yes helaena is married to aegon
daemon's kids are harder for me to tell apart, since they've had less screen time and not much in the way of personality distinction.
daemon's kids w/ laenabaela - ward at driftmark with her grandmother rhaenys, shorter hairrhaena - chilling at dragonstone with rhaenyra and daemon, longer hair
― comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Monday, 10 October 2022 16:18 (one year ago) link
lol sorry to add to confusion. baela's hair may be shorter than rhaena's, but it's still long. rhaena has the cool hairstyle with her long hair elaborately done up, while baela's hairstyles have been simpler

i was having a serious hard time figuring out who was who in the driftmark line of succession

same! also “driftmark” is such a nothing name that i can’t always picture right away who all that is, it’s so undramatic like Kirkland Signature

i was fairly confused by 'sea snake' because I thought the sea snake was that dude Matt Smith cut to pieces in the cave. But I guess it's Corlys. Also did Corlys actually die? wouldn't it be funny if he just showed up next week?

the foot fetish thing was a bit cheap, but i guess it's relatively tame compared to the proclivities of many in this universe

I thought the building tension throughout the first 50 minutes was great, the climax was absolute shit though.

it just felt like it was very randomly thrown in there. same with the search for Aegon, the whole point seemed to be that they wanted to come up with something really demented that he was doing.
xp
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Monday, 17 October 2022 15:05 (one year ago) link
the climax was very frustrating. I don't know how much can really be gleaned from next week's preview, but if the idea is that she's flying back to dragonstone to warn everyone that it is war time, then why the hell did she not just roast the coronation party first?
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Monday, 17 October 2022 15:07 (one year ago) link
i guess it's not technically a "hot war" yet and she was prob moved by alicent protecting her kid. she didn't have a problem murdering dozens of innocent bystanders tho lol, im sure there were mothers in that crowd
― comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Monday, 17 October 2022 15:39 (one year ago) link
yeah, that was a weirdass ending. she murdered about a hundred randos, had a chance to end the entire show and prevent the next several seasons from needing to happen, and then flew off

Okay, so: Why didn’t Rhaenys just torch the royal family and the whole Green crew?[Laughs long and hard.] I know! The temptation is there, right? In the end, she makes a bigger choice. We see that at the moment with what’s going on in Ukraine; to choose not to destroy is the better choice. That’s an important thing for us all to remember right now.

the argument of "i don't care about any of these characters" gets hand waved away as fatuous but the more damning problem here is that I don't care about this especially violent fairy tale or the grandiose stakes or this shows propensity for perversion and vivisection in lieu of thoughtful character development. as garbage watching goes, it's compelling for cheap thrills, melodrama and the best production values money can buy. but if literally everyone in the whole show were to die in the next episode, so what? they'll all be replaced by a full english breakfast of new niece-fucking actors or older BAFTA-winning actresses, likely all named aegyon and vanyra.Creator press pap like "to choose not to destroy is the better choice. That’s an important thing for us all to remember right now" would be laughable if it weren't blatantly offensive as an attempt to rhyme a real human rights violation with a pantomime where the "good guy" murders thousands of innocent bystanders with a fucking dinosaur. peak teevee used to be a bit more peak as i recall.
