Not good.

wonder what they're gonna do about these games, seeing as how it will never stop raining

mookieproof, Tuesday, 4 October 2022 16:17 (one year ago) link

Maybe they are waiting until the pain of this weekend subsides. Been a long time since I felt so acutely anguished by baseball.

Yeah, it sucked.

I was thinking of trying to go a to a playoff game, but I might keep my powder dry.

101 wins, a combined no hitter, McNeil wins the MLB batting title, Alonso with a share of the MLB RBI crown, and mostly good vibes throughout the season. Some great comebacks and amazing work by Diaz. Hard to complain but wouldn’t have minded a game 163 tiebreaker since they ended up with same record as the Braves.

Michael F Gill, Thursday, 6 October 2022 20:21 (one year ago) link

That's a pretty good summary of things.

sometimes you have to drink to kill the paranoia (PBKR), Thursday, 6 October 2022 22:21 (one year ago) link

also you have scherzer and degrom in the same starting rotation

Karl Malone, Thursday, 6 October 2022 22:35 (one year ago) link

also got awfully good results from chris bassitt and taijuan walker -- and it's pretty nice to have (arguably) your fifth-best starter, carlos carrasco, go 15-7

mookieproof, Friday, 7 October 2022 00:21 (one year ago) link

This is primo Mets, I gotta say.

Though I have the feeling they weren't coming back from 3-0 either.

You do have to quit this team at times. After 2006-2008, I checked out for a bit.

Only had two base runners all game tonight.

MLB playoff structure is the pits.

Andy K, Monday, 10 October 2022 02:25 (one year ago) link

101 wins doesn’t get you what it used to back in the day. Blame inflation.

Michael F Gill, Monday, 10 October 2022 02:32 (one year ago) link

As much as it feels like their pitching let them down, their offense in the playoffs was just as ineffective as their offense the last six weeks.

i'm still glad to be rid of that dumb one-game playoff bs.

So… Max Scherzer…

“That’s when we realized the level of stickiness on his hand was much worse than it was even in the initial inspection that had taken place two innings prior,” Bellino said. “So following the proper protocols, Phil immediately recognized it. Phil then asked me to come in to verify that the hand was too sticky. Both Phil and I touched his hand. As far as stickiness, level of stickiness, this was the stickiest that it has been since I’ve been inspecting hands, which now goes back three seasons.

Max Scherzer: “I thought I was gonna get in front of a neutral arbitrator but I wasn't. It was going to be through MLB. So given that process, I really wasn't gonna come out on top. I’m gonna follow what the Mets wanted me to do, and that was accept the suspension.”

This has been one crazy story.

Bee OK, Friday, 21 April 2023 03:26 (eleven months ago) link

"No one can explain what is too sticky," Boras said. "There are no units of stickiness to quantify. How do you appropriately enforce? MLB attempts to level the playing field by using standards that are not measurable. Further, one umpire has a stickiness standard that is different than all other umpires.

"Under this standard, players are not given due process of how to use an approved substance provided by the league," Boras added. "This reminds me of a local wine taster -- he likes what likes."

Nimmo is batting .536/.578/.756 over the last 9 games. Alonso is also torching the ball.

The pitching injury situation is a bit ominous but they are getting away with it at the moment. Great west coast trip so far.

Despite all the current pitching (and winning) problems, it’s not like the people who left are doing much better. Walker and Bassitt haven’t been good so far, Degrom is on the IL again, and if you wanted to sign Rodon he’d also be on the shelf.

Correa’s current awful start would also not have been tolerated in NYC after all the hoopla surrounding his physical. Brett Baty is looking better and better each day.

on a 6-16 run

rotation is a disaster

basically only nimmo is playing well

mookieproof, Tuesday, 16 May 2023 02:49 (eleven months ago) link

Pete's been playing better offensively than Nimmo but your point stands... woof.

Verlander is also a bright spot and their bullpen despite losing Diaz has been surprisingly effective.
